Im bored out of my skull so ill waste some time posting pictures of the house i helped demo.

Some friends of ours bought this house (which is next door to theres)after the city took it away from the people who were living in it to tear down so they could have a bigger yard and some space for their kids to play.

I wish id taken a picture of the bathroom but those white chunks on the roof are ice that was chipped out of the upstairs bathroom.  after the city took the house from the family in it the house sat for a couple months and one of the water mains froze and cracked.  It flooded the bathroom so i had to chip about a foot and half of ice out of there

this is the inside of the garage after we cleaned out all the garbage. There was enough stuff in there to fill 3 industrial size dumpsters.

we found an inline 6cylinder engine buried in the back corner of the garage.

there were about 4 times as many tires in that garage then are out on the curb there. not to mention the other 10 that were in the ground being used as flower pots

the back of the garage.  when the people were kicked out of the house they left a car under the lean to in the back of the garage.

looking towards the front door from the main living room

looking into the front room. there was so much stuff in there you couldnt go past the doorway. if you managed to climb in there the stuff in there would have come up to your stomach

looking into the downstairs bedroom.  another room crammed full of so much crap you couldnt go in it

looking from the main living room at the front room and the downstairs bedroom.

these pictures where taken after we had taken maybe a third of the stuff out already

the downstairs bathroom and backroom

another picture of the main living room before it was completly cleaned.  through the door is the kitchen and you can sort of see the that was in it

another picture of the kitchen after i swept it out.  behind the stove and the heater there is where the cats crapped.  they just threw some cat litter on the floor back there.  so the whole house smelled real bad. and the carpet upstairs was soaked from the ice in the bathroom which made it smell upstairs.  The ceilings and floors downstairs were badly damaged from water dripping from upstairs.

So, are they going to tear it down or what?  If they are going to tear it down, why go to the bother to clean it up first :shruggy:

The backyard after it was cleaned up and all the trees cut down.    I helped cut down 11 trees from that yard and that wasnt even all of them

this is the house after we stripped off all the aluminum siding to recycle it

back of the house.  the green boards there are covering the cellar stairs. when we first opened the doors on the cellar they came right off their hinges the wood was so rotten.  the first 3 steps broke so it was a big step from the top step to the top of the stairway.  The basement was a huge mess.  water had gotten in there was a big puddles all around it. there where tons of cardboard boxes that had deteriorated from the water so every thing in them were just in piles around the place.  there was garbage just lying on the floor the one side of the basement had a pile of wood and boards half way up to the ceiling.  there was 15 gallons of unused motor oil from the 80s and about 35 gallons of paint in cans or spray cans.  all kinds of chemicals.  a 55 gallon drum of GM antifreeze that was empty.  the pipes coming off the coal fired boiler were insulated with asbestos. there was stacks of asbestos tiles.  Windows doors and glass every where.  found a box of unused pistons. there where old washing and drying machines (and i mean really old).  we even found a snow blower from the 50s down there.

They tore it down. im getting there ;D

we had to clean it cause our friends had it appraised because they donated it to the fire department to practice rescue missions on.  so the better it looks the more its worth. so then they can put it on there taxes

I dont mean to be an ass, but that seems like a huge waste! I love old houses and that is one cool little old house!  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

69Coronet

thats what i thought.  but if our friends didnt buy it some slum lord would have.  then he would have rented it out to some scumbag.

plus the place had water damage, it didnt have a working boiler, no cabinets in the kitchen, the sink was from the 60s, the floors and the walls and the ceilings would need to be replaced. the basement didnt have any windows they just had boards leaning against the opening and it would need a new roof and front porch and it smelled terrible in there. all of the stuff that was usable was stripped off the house and sold or i got it or our friends kept it, like trim around doors and windows and the doors and the big fancy windows and some other things. but the whole place wasnt really worth fixing.  by the looks of the wiring in that place you would think it should have burned down.

The place looked pretty livable though after being cleaned out and swept

Any pictures from the cellar?

sorry no. i wish i had but the only times i went down there was when we were cleaning cause it was pretty bad down there and we didnt go down unless we had to cause of the asbestos.  and there werent any lights down there

the front. the window is out cause we had  to push 2 refrigderators and a stove out the window and off the porch roof.  that was the only way to get them out of there.

the garage after the trees were cut down.  i really liked this garage cause it would have been nice for working on cars. there wasnt much space but on the one side there were giant blocks of wood holding up some boards on either side level with the ground and there was 2 or 3 feet between the boards.  and then you could back the car in go around to the back door and then you could go under the car and work on it

The building I have the mopad in was much worse than that, I cleaned it up rehabed it and am renting the upstairs apartment.  The famikly have rented from me for 2 years now.  They are clean and always ontime with the rent.  Now it is one of the nicer buildings in the nieghborhood.  I would like to buy and tear down the duplex next store and put in a poll barn with lift :icon_smile_big:
