The building I have the mopad in was much worse than that, I cleaned it up rehabed it and am renting the upstairs apartment.  The famikly have rented from me for 2 years now.  They are clean and always ontime with the rent.  Now it is one of the nicer buildings in the nieghborhood.  I would like to buy and tear down the duplex next store and put in a poll barn with lift :icon_smile_big:

haha. you wouldnt be saying that if you had gone in this place

What year was it built?  I'm gonna guess 1880.  Am i close?

Cool pics, looks like it was a lot of work cleaning that place out. :yesnod:

There's an area near my house that was nothing but farm land forever...until urban sprawl moved in. In one location, a bunch of the farm land has been turned into shopping centers & a gas station. There are 3 farm houses nearby, one of which is almost brand new...then I guess the zoning changed. One of the houses has been torn down & retail buildings are going in there.
One of the other two is actually a nice house that looks to have been built in the late 70's sometime. I noticed it's now vacant & there's a friggin' "Wallyworld (Walmart) is coming" sign in front, at the roadside. :icon_smile_angry: It sucks that a nice house like that will be demolished for the sake of something like Wallyworld. :rotz:

The third house that's almost new...so new in fact, that the interior isn't even done yet...I don't know what's happening with that. It looks too large to pick off it's foundation & move, so who knows.
I should get some pics, it's sad. :'(

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Some friends of ours bought this house (which is next door to theres)after the city took it away from the people who were living in it to tear down so they could have a bigger yard and some space for their kids to play.

I've been waiting for DAYS to have somebody comment on this... did everybody miss this part?

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,

Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

Dont know.  It didnt have an exact year on the deed though i never got to see the deed.  there was a date of 1902 for a well to be put in though.  so i figure it was built close to that.  could probly find out an exact year from the historical society here in town

damn walmart. i hate walmart.  the exact same thing is happening here.  new houses everywhere.  theres one neighbor hood where every house is excatly the same and it looks like crap. it seems like another farm is torn down every day. it seems like they could at least keep the farm house and build around it instead of just tearing it down.

yea i was wondering when you guys would ask about that to.  So i shall now attempt to explain why the city took the house away from the family.

An old guy and his wife bought the place around 1975 .found some of the old guys     o magazines from the 80s hidden under the staircase on one of our many searches for valuable things cause our friend was absaloutley convinced there was a stash of money somewhere in that house.   anyway the old guy died in about 1998 (their son had lived with them this whole time) so it was just the mom the son and her sons girlfriend and daughter there now.  well not to long after somehow the son lost gaurdianship of his mom. so his mom went off to the old folks home but she still owned this house.  So now the son who dosent work has a free place to live with his girlfriend and here daughter.

so in December of about 2006 the city i guess got tired of nobody paying taxes on this place and they took it from the son living there.  and so the son and his family just left everything (including the food) except TVs and beds and moved up to Michigans UP. thats why there was so much crap in that house.  lotsa cool stuff though to.  like the old guy was a mechanic back in the 70s and 80s for the GM dealership here in town so the garage was full of new and used car parts ( got all those ;D).  the biggest thing we found in the garage was a new bumper for a Chrysler still in its original wrapping though some of the wrapping had deteriorated.  Ill sell the bumper for $60 if you come get it ;D.

I agree those old homes like that are cool! I think alot of us who love restoring old cars love them old houses which are just as much a part of our heritage :'( I see a house like that and I picture the old movie Christmas Story and you'll shoot your eye out kid. Beats the heck out of the old cookie cutter homes. You did alot of work and I am sure it was killing you too but yep least you saved what you could

Ha

we did more then a lotta work. especially after the house was gone.  that was the worst part doing the landscaping that came after the house .Im just glad we didnt have to completly clean everything out of that place.  If i had the money and was older i would have saved the place.   And what sucks is the foundation was in perfect condition and so was the  wood siding.  there was maybe 2 coats of paint at the most on that siding and there wasnt a rotten spot on it it was perfect
