tranny problem, is it possible...

Tranny is a 77 model 727.  Does the tranny need fluid to go into park?  Tranny has been sitting for about 1 year w/o fluid in it, put it in and won't hold in park.  Kinda new to these Mopar trannies.  Also, should you feel the gear as you go thru them moving the shift arm on the tranny, or are the detents in the shifter.

No fluid is needed for park, it's just a mechanical linkage.  You should feel detents as you move the shift lever so those two problems are could be related.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.
