#'s matching or R/T? Which is better?

looking at two identical cars right now. (70 Challengers)

1 is a #'s matching 340 car, auto, but not R/T

2nd is an R/T auto car.

Both cars are in similiar shape, both prices are the same. Which would you lean more towards? The R/T car or #'s 340 car?

Ghoste

The 340 car.  It was everything the RT was except for badging.  Unless the RT you're looking at is a Six Pack or Hemi car, then obviously all bets are off.

Forza

Depends on your intentions with the car. Are you going to fix it up to sell it or keep it? If you're going to fix it up to sell then the #matching 340 might fetch the higher $ for the collectors out there. If it was me I'd grab the 340.

i'm not a huge concours type guy.. but the 340 #'s matching car seems like the best bet to me. 340's were great motors in those e bodies.. better weight dist.. and for resale value i also think the #'s 340 car would eek out the non matching R/T in value

let me add a little twist. I just came across a 70 Challenger SE, #'s matching 383 car, auto, plum crazy.

Now the 70 SE 383 vs. the 70 340 car, which would you lean to? Both cars are the same price, 340 car is completely restored, 383 car is just a nice driver.

off the top i'd still say the '340, the little 340 in my rr rocks and i guess the 383 would add a bit of heft the 340s dont have... have you been able to actually drive the cars?.. i wouldn't deal untill i had... me, myself..  :shruggy:
what are the colors and options on these E's?.. a plum se has got to be a sweet lookin ride, what's the 340?..  :scratchchin:

340 is a B5 blue car, white longitudal stripe, white vinyl top, black interior

383 is plum crazy, black interior, black vinyl top.

the 383 owner said the dealership made the SE car an R/T car as well, so no documentation, but that it is an R/T car made by the dealership. I think I smell BS on that.

the 383s were the stock R/Ts motor but you could get the 440 and 426 too,.. S.E.s were the upmarket option,..

this is quite the delema ya' got there... you poor bastage....  :drool5:
kinda like having to choose between

  ..and...

It sounds like at least if you got the 340 you would have a restored ride, unless you are looking to restore one. Plus it is a  :2thumbs: B5

i vote for the green shirt !!......and 340
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Big Lebowski

Which one is in better shape as far as rust & needing parts? I'd go with a big block R/T over a 340 car anyday. 340's pull better in smaller, lower weight cars like the Darts/Dusters. A 440 Six-pack Challenger would smoke a 340 Challenger SO bad it wouldn't even be funny.  :Twocents:

the 383 challenger needs the most work, the 340 challenger is completely restored by a nationally recognized restoration company for whatever that is worth, it needs nothing.

Big Lebowski

Well for about the same price, the 340 car sounds better. The 340 car sounds like a dependable driver & the 383 car more of a project. I always buy the project R/T's without engines. I'm a sucker for those. In 1991, I bought a '70 Six-pack Charger project just because it had a Dana & disc brakes. I was tired of 10" drum brake cars with grandma style 2.76 Hwy. gears.
