NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Ive been looking and knowbody that I know of has HID lamps in a 5.75 housing that are street legal.

A vendor near me is "close" to getting a true HID in a projector body at the 5.75 size.

The difference for people that arent into that sort of thing.....

Most if not all the 5.75 HID bulbs are "True" HID / xenon lamps stuffed into a generic bulb assembly.

While VERY bright and cool. The light is not focused and it just goes everywhere.

The housings where designed for lower lumen Incandescent lamps with a fixed focal point.

At the correct focal point and light output the "lines" on the bulb smooth and focus the light onto the road.

If you stuff an HID into the old style housing light just goes everywhere.

Ever drive down the road and been blinded by bright white/blue headlights?

Thats HID lamps stuffed into an old style housing.

On the flip side....

The newer cars such as the BMW use HID lamps in a focused projector housing.

The headlights have pretty distinct top and side cutoffs so that you dont blind other drivers.

Plus you get more light output because all the usable light is focused on the road.

Once the vendor near gets them in and I buy some Ill post about it.

If you want to dig around on the internet I would try using the words "HID and Projector".

Plus look for units that are DOT approved.

the set up consists of h4 bulbs with a reflector and is focused. cant beat it.. hella housings

Sure you can. With a Street Legal DOT approved setup that has a real projector housing.

ok.....so  do your homework you would find out that the h4 bulbs have a shield on them "cut off" the light so it doesnt go everywhere... i would suggest you look into those... so  wait until the dot approved housings come out in the meantime me and mike and others will drive at night with plenty of light, being focused and bright...... cheers....

Autodynamics I wasnt trying to bash your system.

Its prolly the best one that I have seen up to this point avaliable in the 5.75 size.

My point was that technology is emerging and it might be possible to find a better projector

with a bit of time and research. Granted it could be another 6 months, but in the end might be

worth waiting.

I have seen the Bullrun car on TV, and the light output is amazing. The image field is not.

Could something be done better without alot of custom work and modifying, prolly not at this time.

As far as doing my homework........

I used to repair automated lights for a living. They use a short arc high discharge lamp and come in sizes up to 2500 watts.

Those units use remotely focusable optics, with shutters, zoom lens and are computer controlled. And at a retail price of over

$10,000 a light they make car headlights look like toys.

I have also done manufacturer shootouts where we pit alike units together and test them. Looking for lumen output, field quality

field consistency, throw, color temperature, UV light radiation as well as what happens to color temperature when you vary voltage and

frequency.

So ya... I think I have it covered.
