I'm planing on installing an electronic conversion kit on my 68 charger. Its a 440 with a .484 purple cam. What color box (part number)? What coil (Part number)? And what voltage regualtor should I get for mostly street driving?  :scratchchin:

Orange box, Black regulator ( not constant output ) and black coil :P

You will want the P3690428 Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit for your 440.  You will get the new distributor along with the orange box and the correct ignition resistor.   The restoration coil is chrysler part number 2495531 which uses the 1-Ohm ballast resistor included in the above kit.
If you go with the blaster coil, part number P4876732 (100:1 turns ratio) then you have to use the 1/4 Ohm ballast resistor---I don't have a Chrysler part number for it.

Part number P4529794 is the repro electronic voltage regulator used on 70 and up cars.  You will need to make some changes to the charging system harness and add the plug that plugs into the regulator as well as the newer style alternator (square back) if you want to use this box.  If you do some surfing around you can find a good article on how to do this.  I don't recall where it is.  I think there are electronic regulators made that fit in the old style regulator housing used on 68 and 69's.  I think I saw them on e-bay.  This would allow you to keep your old round back alternator.

If you are doing all this work you will want to deal with the ammeter issue at the same time.  Too much current flows thru the bulkhead connector pins and if they get any corrosion on them they can heat up and melt along with the bulkhead connector.  There are numerous articles on how to deal with this.

And finally, you may want to consider replacing the instrument voltage regulator with an electronic version that will steady the gauges out.  Here again, there are numerous articles on this on the net.

some of the transformations are on a recent thread... I have talked a lot about this... This thread is not the more information one where I have posted but is the recent:

I've been told by some very reliable sources here on the net to look into this kit: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mo41342440an.html. It seems as if Mopar has changed manufacturing places here lately, like the orange box... Made overseas, like China or something, so hte box on that page is now the recommended one....
