Got the "new" Hemi home last night  :2thumbs:. Painted her up tonight, packed the van, and tomorrow it's off to the engine dyno for startup and tuning.

OK...for those who want to take a shot at guessing the numbers here is the deal. The one who guesses the closest will get a balls out ride in her when she is back together...but you will need to hook up with me to collect. Now the specs...

477 CID, 4.15 stroker crank, cam motion roller cam, .592 lift, 245 @ .050, 109 centerline, out of the box Mopar performance aluminum heads, Landy roller rockers, Manley rods, Diamond 9.6 CR pistons, stock manifolds.....

I can't wait to see what she puts out...stay tuned! :2thumbs:

I just got home and had something to eat. It was a long day today. The first pull was around 1:00 by the time we got everything sorted out.
Drum roll please..........

542 HP @ 6500 RPM...532 ft lbs @ 4500 RPM !

The motor sounds real strong! I'll be posting some video soon, just not tonight. Maybe tomorrow before I start putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. I should have her fired up for the first drive on Saturday, maybe show up at the Whisky if I have the time.

OH and BTW...looks like supserdave is the winner! You have a ride comming to you, just let me know when and where you can hook up my way. I'll be at Carlisle, we can do it then if you are going.....Better have your diaper on! :icon_smile_big: :coolgleamA: :D

looks good, but I was expecting more torque from that car than what came out of it... especially with the long throw on the crank...  :scratchchin:  what was your average torque from 2800-6500?

The dyno sheet starts at 4500 and runs to 6700 in 100 RPM increments. The torque starts out at it's highest 531.4 @ 4500 RPM and gradually comes down to 436 @ 6500. The HP numbers at 4500 are 455.3 and clime to 542.0 @ 6400 RPM.

I will have to scan the print out tomorrow...too tired to do it tonight. The power band climbs real quick around 2000 RPMs and is pretty flat up to 6500. I just don't have anything printed before 4500 RPM.

The lower (than expected) torque numbers are a product of a couple of things ;

(1) the static compression is conservative at 9.6:1
(2) the factory manifolds don't scavenge as well as a set of headers would.

Doug, nice results.....i would be happy with the outcome. This is a nice street build and should be a blast to drive !

nice job!i have the same car,and i'm going to build a very similar engine.i know you're running manifolds for the street but were the dyno results with the manifolds on or headers.thanks.

Hemidoug

Hey Ron,
Yea, I'm tickled pink! I knew the power would be lower then expected because of cr, but I am pleased non the less. I think I had more torque but it peaked at a lower RPM then what the printout started at. Still...540 HP out of an engine that is 477 CID is pretty good don't ya think? I still have some jetting to do, the carbs are 90 percent there. Very broad power range...I have over 400 Ft lbs from 3000 RPM to over 6800! It looks like Torque peaks around 4K per earlier runs. This thing is going to run like a raped ape!

Bullit,
All the runs were done with the factory manifolds. I could squeeze another 60-70 HP at least with a good single plane manifold and headers. I built this for the street and to have some fun with, it is a factory Hemi car and I don't want to twist it into a pretzel after all! Any more power and I would have to modify the suspension and tie frame rails in order to use it. This is definitely the right amount of power for what it is.

Yes, that is an excellent power number (being handicapped) with the factory dual plane intake and factory exhaust manifolds.  :2thumbs:

Fwiw, my 446 made 535hp@6000/ 540tq@4400.....but that was with headers and a Street Dominator single plane/ 830dp carb.  ;)

These motors are pretty evenly matched in terms of power....allthough spark plug changes on yours will be a whole bunch easier !

Can't wait to see (and hear) it in Carlisle !
