Ok guys I have a situation with my car I hope someone can help me with. I recently bought a 73 charger se with a 413 camper motor. The car has bean sitting for 12 years untill I got it. When I got it the motor was mostly complete except for there was no distributor and the carb needed to be rebuilt. So I rebuilt the carb and I put a distributor on. I also had to put the gas tank on with missing parts the way I have it set up is I  have the main hose going to the carb and I have one of the back hoses going half way up the car and then it is cut off for a vent. The rest are plugged. I am not sure if this will work cause I cannot seem to get gas up to the fuel pump. I know the pump works because I had gas up to it but then the starter went out and I unplugged one of the back hoses for a vent. But my main problem is the motor. I can't seem to get it to  start. All I get is an occasional stutter or a backfire. I'm not sure if it is the timing or if I didn't hook the distributor up correctly. I am pretty sure I have the plug wires in the correct order because I looked that up online. One thing I have tried is I put the line on the flywheel lined up with the number 0 above the flywheel and then I put the number one spark plug wire lined up with the part inside of the distributor cap guessing that the number one cylinder was at top center. But that didn't help any. Anybody have any suggestions?

You might want to try the distributor can be 180 degrees out,or try changing your plugs might have fouled out with what old gas was in system..

You may have set Your distributor 180 off, or You may be on an exhaust stroke instead of a compression stroke.
Try this, Lift Your distributor up just enough to rotate the shaft 180 degrees.
Check your firing order ( 18436572) with 1,3,5,7, being on the drivers side.
Just because you set the balancer at 0 which is top dead center, it dosen't mean you were on a compression stroke.
The engine fires every other revolution.
For example, When the engine fires it forces a piston downwards in the cylinder.
This is the power stroke. as it starts back up the exhaust valve starts to open, forceing the burnt gas out.
AS the piston returns to TDC the exhaust closes and the intake opens, pulling fresh gas and air into the cylinder.
When the piston reaches BDC the intake closes and the piston starts compressing the mixture to make fire.
As you can see, if you are 180 off then you will not fire on the compression stroke.
Good Luck.
