It's in the Screen Writers' Guild contractual terms. 

Any and all '68-70 Dodge Chargers featured in a film shall be violently eliminated within two reels of its first appearance.

My 68' Charger... and do 2 vertical cross country races county races count? Montana to Mexico then Montreal to Key West?  :shruggy:

The charger had 8,630 miles on the speedo when they showed it, and the Mustang had 74,242 - quite a lot more!!

Also, most of that Charger damage could've been buffed out.  :buff: :buff: :buff:

I thought it looked like 86,300?

Notice the Charger has a dent free pass side before it goes up the freeway ramp right before it crashes..?  I'm sure there is a webpage somewhere dedicated to this and other movie flaws.

I checked again PocketThunder,  - just to be sure and definately saw 8,630 miles....and couldn't believe it!!  Since it was a 1968 Charger and filmed in 1976.    :icon_smile_wink:  - - Poor thing was only  a baby  :'( :'( :'(

One thing I've noticed about a lot of these '70s counter-culture movies, they're pretty void of any discernable plot.

So Mike, are you going to take your revolver on the next Bullrun? :D

The ODO could have flipped over.  Coulda been 108,600 miles.  That number is a little more likely to be found in an 8-year-old Charger in SoCal in the '70s.

Was the average mileage per person at 12,000 a year back then?  If so then from '68 to '76 x 12k a year puts it at about 96,000, another 8,630 might not have been all that uncommon  :scratchchin:  Hmmm i think we have a mystery to solve....... :icon_smile_tongue:

Very possible  :scratchchin:....I didn't think about that!  :think: :think: :think:  Its probably most likely since they wouldn't have a lot of money in their budget to spend on each car ....especially knowing these Chargers would be wrecked. Plus, they had to buy [at least] a few of them.  :brickwall:

To sad that is always the bad guys who drives the Charger and they allways crash and burn, couldent they have done like the best movie Vanishingpoint and crash a Camaro :icon_smile_big:

I don't have a problem with the bad guys driving the Chargers, it's the crashing part I could live without...
