I started this thread yesterday to acknowledge the untimely passing of someone I watched on TV and therefore "knew" in some limited sense.  While I didn't personally know the firefighters, I am just as saddened by their loss as I am by the loss of the Benoit family - or any other untimely death.

However, knowing now that Benoit killed his wife and son before hanging himself, my hope is that (1) his wife and son's suffering was mercifully brief, and that (2) his suffering is both extreme and eternal.  Rot in hell, Wolverine, you suck!

Kids, don't do 'roids.

1st of all, thanks to the mods for combining the threads......I did not see this one when I posted mine. I had just been awakened in my hotel room with the news and was half asleep when I posted.

The news is truly tragic....They think it might be "roid rage". He killed his wife first on Friday, then his son on Saturday, finally killing himself on Sunday.........He placed bibles by his wife and sons bodies before killing himself.

I have Known Chris on a professional level for over 10 years. No one out here on Tour ever saw this coming. He was always a loving husband & father whenever his family was out visiting on tour.

The management & crew out here on tour are devastated by this tragic event. They are thinking of cancelling tonight's show here in San Antonio.

I am kinda stunned by what happened. What sucks(besides the whole horrible tragedy) is that kids looked up to this guy. He was always portrayed as a really nice guy, a good sport, an underdog, and a champion. I just got done trying to to explain this to my 9 year old brother that is distrought over the whole thing.

"Portrayed" is the perfect word to use here. How can anyone pretend to know someone they've never met? And shouldn't our kids be taught to look up to someone whose deeds are a little more admirable than a pro wrestler? Maybe people who actually improve the world around them instead of having the ability to talk loud, take steroids and jump off the top rope? The whole thing is a ruse (in case you guys didn't know) so at best he was a fake hero. At worst he was what we found out he really was: a cowardly, narcissistic murderer.

I don't think it's about pretending to know someone. If I heard one of you guys did this, I'd be like..."wow, didn't see that coming, he came off as a cool guy."     Same thing.
Maybe they're not the best role models, but all the other 4th graders aren't trading cards and action figures of the fireman down the street.

Yeah but the firefighters down the street are the true heroes of this country.  We should be trading cards and action figures of them instead of people on tv.  Although we all must remember that this stuff happens to regular people not just people on tv, the only thing is that we don't here about the regular people having murder-suicides as much as the tv people doing it.

Benoit's personal Doctor's office was RAIDED really early this morning, Police said there was enough evidence with that doctor's name on it that led them in that direction.

My guess is that toxicology came back and was damaging for the Benoit and the doctor.

My take on the rest of this goofy argument?

Little kids look up to people, people that are well known or even sports personalities that maybe are part of something their PARENTS watch.

I'm 40 years old, I've been a wrestling fan for 7-8 years now, and I am old enough to know the real deal. Wrestlers aren't heroes to me.

I love going to live events because some of these guys are incredible to watch. They can do absolutely incredible things and some of them are just cool guys.

KIDS should NOT watch wrestling until they are OLD ENOUGH to discern the difference between acting and real. They should also have people in their lives they can look up to that are actually a PART of their lives, NOT just on a TV screen.

Amen to that.  My kids know that their daddy and their friend's dads are the true heroes of this country.  They don't look up to any TV/movie personality.   They used to watch wrestling with me and even went to a few live events, but they knew/know that anything they watch on TV is fake (unless it is the history channel, national geographic, or the animal channel).  They like people like Ashley Tisdale and Hillary Duff, but they do understand that they are just people who pretend to be other people.....That is what every parent needs to teach their child...Only look up to those who are themselves all the time and do heroic things for the better of this country.

Very well said 68chrgrwife, if only people would understand that more instead of expecting tv and the schools to teach that to them....

68chrgrwife

Sorry, but I have lost all faith in the education system.  They only teach the kids what is on the standardized tests all year long.  I cannot stand having my kids in public schools, but cannot afford private and with my medical problems can't homeschool.

Oh I agree with ya totally, I was just saying that it's hard to sway the kids from what their peers veiw as "cool"
