Don't buy Summit Headers - They are warped!

Just a warning to those out there considering these cheap headers - I've tried multiple times to mount them and they leak every which way!

I spent $100 for the small block headers

Then another $50 for Seal for Good Aluminum gaskets - still not good enough to seal those crappy headers.

Don't waste your money - get a better brand.

i got a set a year ago and have had no problems........maybe you just got a bad set.....

That's for sure.  :rotz: piece of crap!  I've tried every method suggested to keep these cheapo $100 headers from leaking. a lot of wasted time and work.  I was just trying to replace my old ones which were perfect except they had a whole on bottom of one tube. I'm sorry now. I just spent another $50 to get a set of Percy's seal for good gaskets and even THOSE did not fix there bad seal.

Have you tried cutting the flanges between 1-3 and 5-7 ....same thing on the other side 2-4 and 6-8 ?

This usually works with thin and/or warped flanges. I also like to use ultra copper on both sides of the gasket and let it set up overnight just snugging the headers down....then tighten up the next day when the rtv has cured.

If you haven't done it this way, give it a try before throwing in the towel !   :Twocents:

Call summit and tell them they wont work! I called them and told them my muffler wouldn't go into the pipe and they sent UPS to take the old one  and sent me a new one in two days! Call them!

No, I haven't tried cutting them yet. I also haven't used ultra copper gasket maker, but I tried the black RTV stuff on the header side of the new gaskets that came with the headers. That didn't work.  I don't know how well the rtv stuff will work with the aluminum gaskets I have now, but anything is worth a shot I guess as long as it doesnt ruin the gaskets if I have to take it off again.
Still - crummy headers.
Thanks

Great idea about returning them, but since I started this attempt last september, I doubt they would take them back now :-(  :-\

I don't know about Summit, but we bought emblems from Year One over a year ago and they were the wrong ones.  We just called the other day and they sent out new emblems and are picking up the old set all for free!!!  You never know until you try!
