It cost them $22 Million to make 44 cars? I wonder what the usual prototype car costs are?

I remember when I saw the first '84 on a dealer's lot. It was sitting there with the hood open, I remember looking at the spindly aluminum A-arms & thinking that the looked very breakable. It was also wearing the fattest steamroller tires I'd ever seen on a car before!

The 44 Corvettes built as pilot cars were assigned 1983 serial numbers. Of the 44 cars built, 11 were retained by the Bowling Green plant for assembly process evaluations and other tests. The remaining 33 went to engineering for crash tests and other engineering appraisals. The cars also saw duty at the long lead press preview at Riverside Raceway in december 1982.
     This new Corvette was due to be released in the fall of 1982, however continued high sales of the 1982 model and ramp up problems at the new Bowling Green assembly plant forced the introduction date to be pushed back to march 1983 as 1984 models. For that reason, all but one of the 44 1983 pilot cars were destroyed. Only serial number 23 was retained by the assembly plant as a relic of the past."

Well I stand corrected.  I should have said.... uhhh, they (Chevrolet) never sold a 1983 Corvette.

ok....now i know everyone is gonna call b.s on this, but a chick in my class back in high school had a roadrunner, and i SWEAR, if memory serves me correct it was a 72.....this was way back before the mopar bug caught me, so i really didn't pay attention.......i do remember she had a bash at her place once when her parents were gone, and she did indeed have a roadrunner sitting out there, as i remember being disappointed that it was "too new".---- now for my follow up stupid question, what makes the 72 roadrunners so special that people don't believe this dude that says he found one?  Her family has since moved away, but where i live it is so remote that i think i could track the car down now fairly easily.....or at least find out what happened to it......who knows, it could still be sitting out at the house for all i know.  They had an auction when they left and they got rid of alot of the crap around the yard, but i know theres still some old cars out there.........and btw, if i do happen to track it down, i'll make sure to have the digital camera ready for "proof".  --btw i still owe you guys some pictures of that gtx i found a while back.......i gotta talk to the guy who showed it to me for some parts, so i'll have some pictures before too long........

anyone got pics of a early 70's runner for me to oogle in the meantime?

Because in the past Matt, (THE CHARGER PUNK) apperentley saw a 69 Modtop Daytona SE at a car show and took pictures of it. We all told him that there was no such thing as a 69 Modtop Daytona SE and he said it does because he has pics of it.  Anyways, we wait months (it was close to a year I think) and the thread went on and on and it reached something like 8 pages and near the end of it, he told us he took the pictures to London Drugs and apperentley the pictures got "spoiled". So people still believe his whole Modtop Daytona story was BS. So basically now whenever he saws he found a car.....we dont believe it until we get proof like pictures. Hope that helps you understand the "Matt syndrom"

  I still actually believe there is a Modtop Daytona that he got pics of. I just dont know if its real or a clone. Also, I enjoy calling out Matt....its funny

Okay, I feel like a dweeb.  I've never heard about the '83 Corvette.  As far as I knew they've produced Vettes every year since their debut.

You guys could have sold me "chromed muffler bearings" too I guess!
