For a 69 charger
I would like to get a pix or 2 of a rear window defogger with the rear speaker attached in place. I have one of the units and for the life of me cant figure out how to mount the thing. I see what I think is the right way but the rear tray drops into the way, the way I see it any way?? Just would like a couple of pix or a diagram of sorts..
Thanx for the help!!
Eric

I already sent you an email, but think this will be very helpfull to every body.

As far I know this setup wasn't available to B bodies, and in fact since 70 just to C and E bodies ( my 74 catalog just state available to E ), but setup fits on any car with 6x9 hole on passenger side

I don't have pics mounted on car but got some pic partially assemblied AND catalog diagram.

This pic may help...while it is from the 68 parts book, the 69 is the same.

I think he is talking about the adaptor to mount both on same speaker hole

If memory serves you only got 1 rear speaker if you opted for both on a 2nd gen Charger.  The motor mounts in the pass side speaker hole.

I added the rear defroster to my car along with 2 6x9 speakers.

I used the speaker holes for the speakers & I mounted the motor to another hole in the package tray.   The only reason for that is because the motor inlet needs fresh air from the pass compt...

To do this I had to mount the motor on the drivers side (originally it mounts on the pass side), use a longer piece of duct tubing & turn the plenum around as well.   I drilled 1 extra hole ( I was able to use 2 existing holes & mounted it using some rubber bushings in case of vibration.  it might not look pretty but it functions well & quietly.... I've used it on more than one occasion

Looking at the motor assy in my pic & the pic in Doug's 68 FSM you will see the bracket that mounts to the top of the motor that fits into the speaker opening

Chris is right, 2nd gen Charger's only came with one speaker, weather or not you had the speaker
package and rear defrost.

Now if you had an E-Body you could get this setup, I plan on making one work in my car.

Also C bodies...

BTW you could get 2 speakers on rear without rear deffog on stereo Setups, at least on 3rds

;),
Thanx for the reply and help Dan. Now since I know you own a 68, hold the unit that you have up and then look at your package tray. There is an upside down A that protrudes toward the bottom of the tray. Due to the length of the unit , by the time you hold it up where the speaker should line up with the hole in the tray the back half hits the upside down A and you cant bolt to anything plus it is not a flat surface.. Hope I have explained good enough. Dan I am sure you have some package tray pix. Pull one up and you can see what I am talking about. Still hoping some one with one installed on a 68 or 69 can burn us a pix. I will have the same problem when I come over to install yours. Was hoping to get a little practice in first..
Thanx all for the help!!

Eric, do you have the repo speaker defrost unit like in my top two pics?
or do you have an original correct unit as in my last two pics? both are for
E-Body and C-Body, I have yet to see one for a 68-70 B-Body, I would bet
there is no such animal, but  good luck Eric

I know this is a super old thread but I thought I would give it some life as I am struggling with this exact issue 14 years later. There doesn't seem to be any other threads on this topic so I'm bringing this one back to life.

Does anyone know of a way to mount two rear speakers AND the factory rear defogger? Has anyone come up with a good solution during the past decade?

My car has a factory defogger. It came with the car but was pulled out because the PO put in two speakers. I would really like to have my cake and eat it too here with both defogger and dual speakers.

The only way I can see to do it is mount the defogger somewhere else and extend the hose. OR maybe put surface mounted speakers on the rear deck. I'm not crazy about either solution.

Here is my current setup.

Look at this thread in the 70 Charger registry

There is a picture in post #43 if you can find one of these you would be all set

Guess I should have read this thread from the begining as they already talk about it

Thanks but winged1 talks about it above and apparently it will not fit. I almost bought one before I saw his post.

the adaptor works just for E bodies and I think A bodies too ( mostly sure C bodies too ? ) but they don't fit on ANY B body. Not even 71/74 like BROCK says there. The dutchman panel is too short on them.

Maybe on 68/70 B bodies could made to work with some spacer to sway the weird tray they got there ?

I have both the 2 speakers mounted and the defogger all you need is the fan mounted to the side were the square hole is and to use a longer pipe make sure you remove some of the insulation under the parcel tray so it sucks air from the speaker hole and the dip down area to the left of the square hole works perfectly
