Just bought a 383 engine. It came out of a 1965 plymouth fury parts car, this is probably not the engine that came in the car. It has a two barrel carb so it is a passenger car engine. I've never owned a big block engine, where are the engine numbers supposed to be? Also are the distrubutors the same in big blocks and small blocks?

The distributors are not the same between big and smallbocks.  The numbers for a 65 engine should be on the front of the block on a machined pad to the right (as you face it) of where the distributor goes into the block.  You will also find a casting date on the side of the block.  Check for stamped numbers on the side of the block as well.  Along the oil pan rail on the passenger side and behind the starter you may find some numbers as well depending on what the engine actually is.

Thanks ghoste, I may need some more help in the future when we start the rebuild on this engine. :slap:
