Hi all, i just got a 1971 charger SE,  its the one that got away when i was a kid (my  dad said "NO WAY !"). so i am gonna need lots of help and thought i'd sign up here for tips and info.
I live  out in Oregon  so i will probably never meet any of  you face to face .  My name is neal.
The cars  pretty nice as an almost  survivor,  a cheaper  repaint but everything else on its original down to the gas cap. i got it from the original owner for 3250 dollars.  Only 121,000 miles on it.  always kept inside . and from the high desert of eastern oregon so not all rotted out, (plus we dont use salt out here in winters either, we use  cinder cone, or crushed lava).
Anyhoo just wanted to say hi, and i will surely be torturing u all with a zillion  little questions

Neal you picked the right place to find some answers and lots of friendly help!

I restored a 71 500 about 6 years ago all with the help of people from here. Do lots of reading, of tech articles and other peoples questions that are even remotely similiar to whatever you are going through at the time. You will become fairly knowledgable in short order.

Damn that looks like a pretty solid car.  :2thumbs:

interiors not too bad at all really, I lijked this car because it was the original owner and its all very original down to little tags, and clips and such. unfortunately that makes me think I shouldnt rip it up and make a real beast out of it. which is waht i want to do, but.....

unholymother

the mighty 318,   the whole car only has 121,000 miles on it, and the original owner kept it inside its whole life so its pretty solid, and everything works on it( except the cruddy gas tank).
I think I paid too much for a  318 car ( 3250 dollars)  but I am so tired of buying cars that once u get them home they are just piles of "#@&%!!!"....., I decided to splurge.
I wish it was a big block car but....

unholymother

the grilles real nice, bumpers super straight, car suffered from a cheezy  earl Scheib paint job somewhere along the way, so its not with out problems, but   what do u get nowadays for 3250....  and I was real suprised to see the headlight doors worked

I was also suprised to se that this car had an 8.75  under it, I thought for sure with it being a mighty 318 it would just be an 8.25,   whats the scoop.???
  thansk for your time guys.

That was not a bad price. The interior looks great. Solid cars are very hard to come by no matter what generation Charger. The more solid the body the less out of pocket for sheet metal repair. I was lucky also, 99.9% rust free. Saved me thousands. 318's are nothing to laugh at. Everytime I put gas in my 400 I think it would be nice to have a 318 2bbl. Take your time, pay cash for what you NEED and the what nots you can pick up when you have the additional funds.

Another 3rd gen owner  :woohoo: :woohoo:
Welcome to the board
I have a 71 SE also. Mine was ordered with a 383, 2bbl., 8.25/2.92 open rear end. Try to figure that one out.
I think you got a good deal on the car. With the price of gas right now 318's are looking pretty good. I'm leaving for Carlilse in 10 days. It's a 1200 mile round trip and I'll only stop for gas 3-4 times.
