Well, I got my carburetor back from Dick Katter this week.

This is the same carburetor I got off of eBay for $25, because it was missing a few parts and had an incorrect top on it.  I sent that core (which had the right date code for the Daytona) and another 4617 carb for parts out to Mr. Katter, and 2 months later this is what he sent me:

Almost hate to put it on the car!

I think that would look great as a centre piece on the kitchen table, rather than a vase of flowers or perhaps on the fireplace mantle?

Looks good!

Wow, it's almost like jewellry.  So now, what is the complete total you have into a correct date coded carb?

Does Dick only do Mopar stuff? I have an old Rochester that I would LOVE to have look like that. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much was it to have that done?

If I told you how much it cost, I'd have to kill you - for fear that my wife would find out and then kill me

  :P

The cost all depends on what shape the carb is in when he gets it.   The more work, the more cost.   Some carbs have hard-to-find accessories like the Dashpot on my 4-speed carb, or the choke diaphragm/pull-off.   If he has to scrounge parts, the cost goes up.   If he has to fix worn throttle plates, rods or holes, it's more... etc. etc.   He's pretty much a magician when it comes to these things.   They're not just replated parts - they're all back to factory specs when he sends them out.

Mr. Katter restores all of Roger Gibson's carburetors, and it's hard to find anyone pickier on details than Roger.   This is the second batch he's done for me - he did the AFB carbs for my R/T about 5-6 years ago.   He's a veritable walking encyclopedia of carburetor info as well.   I found out all sorts of things from him as to what the stamped letters mean.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember exactly what I paid him - but it was in excess of $500, I do remember that.   I'm trying to block that from my mind, remember?   Or maybe my line is "I have no clear recollection of that amount."   Yeah, that's it!!!!

YoungGun, I don't honestly know if he does Q-jets or not.   I suspect he does, but you would have to confirm.   His company tag line says "Muscle Car Carburetors", so it is possible.

Here's his contact info:

For a like new date coded AFB, that ain't bad.  Imagine what it would have been on e-bay in it's current state.

Geno, either I did not look at my carbs when new or your PIC color looks funny from the PIC but that does not look right? In the PIC it look's gold not Aluminum color.

I am back

Ken,

It's not your memory, your eyes, or (necessarily) the Cam2...  The lighting where I took the pic wasn't that great, and I was trying out the "closeup" setting on the digital camera  *sorry*.  Guess ya gotta have a spotlight on it to look right using that setting.  In reality, the carb looks like it should, no gold tint...
