I went for a little drive a few hours ago and saw some cool stuff I thought I'd share. First off is one for Mike and Mr. Angry and a few others before it got dark...

Latourell Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, named after Joseph "Frenchy" Latourell who settled the area and made it prosper back in the late 1800s: http://www.waterfallsnorthwest.com/waterfall.php?num=1478&p=0

And some nighttime shots. I've always wanted to photograph the moon but I still don't have the right equipment for it. On this second shot I wedged my binoculars into the car's window to keep them still and then put my phony point-and-shoot digital camera lense up to one of the eye pieces. :shruggy: Poor man's telescopic lense I guess.

Is that yellow moss, or just a giant spit wad? :icon_smile_big:

Cool pics, Man. :2thumbs:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

"This waterfall is usually most recognized for the large patch of bright yellow lichen adorning the cliff face to the right of the falls, and this characteristic has led many famous photographers to give this location their treatment." http://www.waterfallsnorthwest.com/waterfall.php?num=1478&p=0

Somewhere around here I have a black and white picture I took of Latourell Falls Bridge back in '95 or so. When I got my journalism degree I had to take some photography classes and this was one of the places we went for subjects. The name of the falls is somewhat humorous because Latourell is often pronounced "lateral" by Americans and of course lateral means sideways. They should have called it Latourell Vertical Falls.

Nice shots Curtis.  :2thumbs:  A little farther east is where I shot my Gorge pix about a month ago.  A turnout on the old highway.  I've never been up to the Vista House yet.  Don't we live in the most beautiful part of the country.

I had the binoculars wedged in the window of my Durango and then used the fastest shutter setting on my camera so I'm relying on a quick exposure rather than keeping still. That's why the focus isn't that great. Someday I hope to be set up to take professional-grade shots of the moon. This woman is my moon photography hero: http://geogdata.csun.edu/~voltaire/ann/lunar.html
