Want to buy a F--king Mopar? Cuda Ken had a bad day

Why do I have these kind off days?  ;D

Today was the big day, going to start up and break in the Blowen 440.  :drive: :drive:

41 Husk was coming by to watch the oil pressuer and water temp and hold the RPM's at 2000 for cam break in while I tuned and checked for leaks. I hooked up the battery and turned on the head lights to see if battary was low, no light's. OK, pulled the engine in May so battery went dead. Hooked the battrey charger up and still no lights? Hum, this is not good.

Got the tester out, have power to the starter relay. Tested the fuseable link, have power there, hum? Pulled the cannon plugs and tested the fusable link on that side, had power there so it must be the cannon plug it self right! Cleaned them the best I could, hooked it all up and still nothing.  By then Allen (41 Husk) showed up and I was on the phone with DFS 68, he was checking the wiring diagram for me. DFS 68 know's stuff I don't and I thinks he does not so it makes a good team. Checked what DFS said to check but still no luck.

DFS did make a light flicker in my head. Fuseable link goes throught fire wall and hooks to the Alt gauge then splits from there. When I got the Charger it did not work as normal and had been by passed. Should have taken a PIC for this part. On your 69 Charger's where the vacuum comes threw the firewall  for the head lights is there a wire at the top of it? On mine there is? I did not hook the wire up to the relay but that was the only places it would reach. Alllen touched it to the relay and there was a spark. Hum, pulled up some PIC of my Charger on the Keyboad Thingie and yep it went to the starter relay! Don't think it should be there but it was and the headlight's went on. Never sen some as happy as me then!

Filled her up with water and 9 quarts of oil? Boy that is a big oil pan! ;D Hooked up the coil, last thing to be done. Allen looked at me and said "there are no more left Ken". Pulled out the timing light and gave her a quick crank, 10 degress before TDC so she was ready and so was I. Dump in some gas and had cranked her over and she light! Ran about 2 seconds and died. Primed the carb again and hit the switch and she lite and die.

Then I saw some white smoke from the fire wall, what the hell is that? It was the new never used ballast resister? Being a Mopar man I had plenty on hand!  ;) Allen hooked it up while I checked the one on the 68 Runner, it was wired right.

Show time again. Dump some more gas in the carb, lite and die, dump some more gas in the carb, lite and die, dump some more gas in the carb, lite and die, dump some more gas in the carb, lite and die, strated to see a pattern here.

Pulled the Carb fuel line (yes the Charger has gas in it, and add 2 gallons of 93 stuff for break in) and stuck a funnel in it. Allen poured about I would say a pint or better to the fuel pump. Cranked her over again and no gas to the carb? At this point I was done and Allen had to make nice with his wife's family.

Either one of two things have happen

1 Fuel pump off the 42sick went bad in 4 months.

2 Shop did not install the fule pump drive.

Called all the local parts store's and not one BB Mopar fuel pump in stock! :icon_smile_angry: Hee, Hee, guess I love to old of cars! ;)

When she did fire, sounds pretty good.

Dumbest thing that happen, break lights are stuck on again! I have replaced that F--king switch 3 F--king times this year! As Allen said "need to pull the peadel to your groain to get them to go off" and he is right.

Want to buy a Charger? Yah, I will keep the pices of Rolling Mopar History.

That is for the engine only and you better provie to me you know what you are doing before I sell it to some one! Don't want anyone deaths on my mind.

In boost at 2000 RPM's should be around 250 to 300 HP and 675 to 789 Foot pounds. Rayzor made the same 440 and it was 300 HP and 789 Foot pounds at 2000 RPMs.

Bragging rights is one thing, this thing in the wrong hands is a Killer.

what kind of fuel pump you got ken?  if it is a manual fuel pump then the seals could easily have dried up on you, happened to me while i was putting a motor together over the winter, come spring for start up, no go at this station.  replaced the fuel pump and whamo.  was there any fuel pressure? do you have a gauge hooked up going to your carbs?

have a drink :cheers:and relax, you have put way to much time and effort to give up now, plus the first full throttle run,and you wont be able to stop smiling for a week!good luck bud

RD it is a manual fuel pump, that is why I stuck some gas down the line from it. There been a few times that trick has got a pump that has sat for a while to work again.

Later today I pull the pump and see what is going on with it. Might be time to hook up the Holley Blue Pump's.

It will be running this week.

...you know, the ladies have been known to say the same thing about my d***.   :o

Sorry, I had to!  :icon_smile_big:

Anyway, call me retarded, but what are the two big straps hanging off the engine at its top cornors?

Ken when i kept going through brake light switches it turned out to be the dome light wiring that was eating them, they are on the same fuse.  I know your about to bounce back into happyland at the home stretch. just keep thinking about that first time you back it out and feather the the throttle a little bit to go forwards and it lights em up like a christmas tree.

Safety belts, basically.  If the engine sneezes it could blow that supercharger off with, um, substantial force.

ChgrSteve67

I'll trade you my fuel pump for your headers Ken.  :brickwall:

I feel for you Ken - all 10 bandaided fingers and a few bruised ribs.
