Now it's time to start with subproject rearaxle on the -68. After removing the shafts I noticed that the surface for the bearings are very bad, how can I solve that?
I guess that's why my drums were full of heated grease. Can new ones be pressed in or what's recomended?  :scratchchin:

I've seen a lot worse looking housing ends, do the bearing cups fit tightly? If so, don't worry about appearance.

Grease in the drums is caused by worn out seals or misadjustment.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

if the brg fit loose in there you need either a new housing end welded on or a new housing

Just by what you said and the pic you posted I have a feeling that you think the bearing rides on this surface but it doesn't. The bearing cup is still on the axle with the bearing and the grease that got on your brakes usually means that the outer seal, the one that keeps the bearing grease in the bearing, is bad. I've meet quite a few guys that didn't know there are 2 seals on each axle, good luck.

OK, does it mean it's not pressfitting like the front hubs and it may be some play?

the outer brg race should be a snug fit but not press fit into the housing end

I have seen Mancini sells something called "green axle bearing package", could that be sometning for me?

Per,

You'll be just fine with the green bearings for some occasional cruining. Advantage is you won't need to adjust the play of the bearings like with the original tapered ones.

If you want to know more of this then give me a ring, then i can explain this in Dutch wich a little easier than writing it down here.

There are also several threats over here about the pro's an con's about the use of green bearings. Use Green bearing as a search item.....

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Personally, I wouldn't change to the Greens unless you absolutely have too, the factory bearings are far superior.

If you decide to purchase the Green bearings from Mancini get the more expensive 2-piece kit.

Green bearings are fine....many Ford trucks run them for hundreds of thousands of miles, trouble free.  :yesnod:

Like John said...the 2 piece green bearings are better....that's what i've used in every Mopar i've owned.  :2thumbs:

Get the picture! What's the advantage towards the onepiece kit?

The flange on the one-piece can break off if there is any misalignment, the 2-piece snap ring style is more forgiving of misalignment.
