Were starting to get all the parts together for the 69 R/T and i need to decide on an exhaust system. The guy at the shop i am going to reccomended Delta 10 Series single chamber mufflers. I told him that i want the car LOUD, but borderline illegal. He said that if its an older muscle car, especially a 69 Charger R/T, they shouldn't give you a bad time about noise. This is what we are doing as of right know, tell me what you guys think or if there is something else i should try.

Headman Headers, 2 1/2 in. pipes all the way back, single chamber delta 10's, turn down tips before the bumper, just barley noticable. Will this system sound pretty good? Iv'e got a Flowmaster Super 40 on my truck and need way more noise than that for the 440!

Well, if you use those Flowbastards you will loose some power. Why, because like you said they use a chambered design which restricts the flow of exhaust hence you loosing power. They wont be as loud as the Flowbastards but I would go with Dynomax Ultra Flo's. They are a straight through design which won't restrict exhaust, and although they aren't as loud as the Flowbastards they still have a great sound at both idle and WOT. Also, if your car is really loud, even if it is a classic, they will pull you over. Just ask me how I know. Just a couple suggestions, good luck!

Different localities will obviously have different requirements for what constitutes "borderline illegal" but I would check around where you live and find out what other car guys seem to get away with.  Even in areas with a level defined by a decibel limit, have you ever seen a cop with a decibel meter?  In most cases, it will be up to the officers discretion and if he thinks it's too loud, then it's too loud.

I have flowmasters on my 72 318 and 71 383 and they are both loud. I had Dynomax's on the 318 when I switched to duel exhaust and wouldnt recommend them at all. they collapsed inside out, and they factory wouldnt replace them. plus they are pretty thin, unless they came out with a design like flowmasters.
