1972Rallye

The VIN is for a hardtop... There is no way to tell if a Lynch Road built car (A in the VIN) is a Rallye unless you have the Build Sheet.  Since the door VIN matches the dash VIN, you can assume that this car was either a Rallye that someone added the SE widow filler to or the body is an SE that someone swapped the doors and dash into.  The only sure way to tell is to look at the body numbers....

I emailed the seller and told him I thought the car had been mis-represented to him, and this is his reply:

Thanks for your info, the vin on the radiator support matches the car. And it does not appear to be tampered with. I was told this is an SE car with the rallye package. Supposed to be very rare. It also is a very early 72 which might have something to do with this.

The guy is either full of it or ignorant (maybe both).  If it was an "SE with the Rallye package"  the VIN would have been WP29M2A137340 not WH23M2A137340.  "SE" is a model with its own VIN designation, Rallye is a package (A57) that could be had on hardtops and coupes in 1972.  Also, judging by the sequence#, this is not a "very early 72".

If you could get it for under 3K the hood, doors and hideaways would pay for it.

He means that a 72 Rallye should have the louvered taillights, like a 71 RT.

I emailed him too. Told him there is no such car made, because the VIN's would be 2 totally different digits. It's a rebody and a bad one at that. That's all.
