Fuel pump rod stuck what's the trick 440 disassembly........

Hi Guys, my first 440 adventure------getting ready for the machine shop.  My motor is very old,  looks like 66 cast in block, and lots of gum and crud.  The fuel pump rod is stuck and I can not move it enough to get the cam out. I been skeetin it with W-D 40 and trying to get it to twist with a pair of Vise-Grips, no luck.  I dropped a curved scraper between the rod and cam lobe and tried to turn the cam and press out the rod...........no luck with that either.  My next thought would be some heat on the block out side the shaft tunnel.........any body have another trick that worked for them.........thanks .........John

have you pulled the plug on the outside of the block that holds it in? it takes a 3/8s allen wrench and is directly inline with it. if its just seized i don't know if i would be brave enough to heat it but someone else here should know.

 Yes, the plug is out, the timing cover is off, the oil pan, heads, timing chain and gear. The rod has about a i/2 inch sticking below the bore and I can get a set of Vise Grips on it, but , it seems frozen pretty solid.  Was hoping there might be a simpler way than heating the area.   Thanks...J

if it is stuck it may have mushroomed the top of the rod , also try using a real penetrant like Mopar , Wd 40 IS POOR AT BEST

I finally got it. Found a low spot on the cam and drove the rod back in........more skeet stuff and used the cam to push the rod back out. Did this a few times and Vise Grips finally pulled it out. Had to hammer a few stuck pistons out, but finally got the block stripped. There is  rust on the block so I called my machine shop and he said no one in town has a tumbler large enough to tumble a block. Said their cleaning tank will cook most clean. I think the only thing that will make this block look like new is a tumbler........any other ideas.........thanks, John

If your machine shop has a strong enough vat, most if not all of the rust will come off. If it doesn't, there always  muratic acid.
