Timing is still off somehow. Like I said, you can have the firing order correct, but if your way off on where your number one is you won't be able to turn the distributor enough to get it to line up with the rotor.

I'd pull out the number one plug, check to make sure your getting a good spark, then find Top Dead Center. Take the distributor cap off, move the distributor to the middle of the travel that you have without the vac advance hitting the heater hose, and then put the cap back on and put number one plug wire where the rotor is aiming. Jump in the car hit the switch and it should fire right up!

will try that as soon as the batt is charged.i have been trying to get thsi going for over a week now.....really getting :brickwall:

I hear ya, trying to get my brothers pickup going the other weekend we fought the same thing, finally took the time to actually find TDC and not guess where it should be, and it popped right off.

Like I said, your close man! :popcrn:

Did the cable loosen up by chance?  May be at the starter or the battery.  kinda a dumb question but after alot of this  :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: you lose sight of the little things.

chargerman68

I would say you fried it. Take it off and into a parts shop for a test. Then buy a starter for a 1995 Dodge Dakota 6 cylinder. That is the mini starter everyone talks about. It also turns the engine over much faster.
Then turn the engine over until you find TDC. Then put a ratchet on the crank pulley, turn the engine to the 10 degree before TDC mark. Put the distributor in the engine with the vaccum pod where you can adjust it. Mark the side of the distributor where the rotor is and put the cap on. Put the number one wire on the cap at the mark. Then follow the firing order counter clockwise of 18436572.
Change the oil and plugs. Start engine and take it to 2000 rpms immediately and hold there for cam break in. Change oil and drive to show.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

If it is the 95 Dakota starter like the Deputy says (which i'm not disputing i just dont know) then this should work.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1991-1995-DOGDE-DAKOTA-STARTER-V6-8-3-9-5-2L_W0QQitemZ200118892921QQihZ010QQcategoryZ33573QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

In my opinion for $65 plus $20 in shipping for a reman you might as well get the new starter from 440source.com for $79.95 at least its from a reputable company and not some potential ebay chop shop.
Then again its not my money  :boogie:

chargerman68

thanks i will look into it
