Temporary painting of engine comp.

I just painted my 73 sublime, but the engine comp is still white and very nasty.  I was going to pull the motor this winter and paint a single stage, but it looks so nasty compared to the rest of the car, that I have been considering masking it off and rattle canning it flat black.  It is already very modified.  I would like some input before I do this.  It will look better than it does now!

id just keep the hood closed for now until you pull the gine and do it nice!

That is a lot of masking for a temp fix.

I started to do it as a permanent fix that way, finally just pulled the engine and got in there and prepped it much better and easier.

I agree with 1hot.  Why put the time in if you're going to get it done right in a bit anyway?
If you are going ahead though, degrease thoroughly then make sure you scuff the paint with some scotchbrite so that the spray paint sticks.  A neat trick to help with masking things is to use tinfoil - it's easier to get around things than tape sometimes and real easy to remove when you're done.

do it once nicely rather than hassling with pulling engine in and out, in and out.

As long as you are patient it will look OK! I spray bombed mine for a tem fix till I get all the body work done and paint it. Mine also looked like t had been through hell and back. here is mine -still need to get around to ding the fire wall, but you get the idea!

the color ratlle cans cost about 20.00 each and it will require more of them BUT it will be green NOT black.
