WHAT TO DO ? MORAL DELEMA

The dilemma I see, is that you had to ask what to do.

Only twice, did I get a chance for a free, or very inexpensive vehicle. An uncle of mine offered me his '73 VW camper since he knew I had always liked it from when I was a kid the day he bought it new. I took it, it needed some work, but after awhile I decided it was too expensive to fix & sold it. I called him before I did to offer it back, or see if he wanted the money from the sale, but he said no, just sell it for whatever it's worth & keep it. I think I may have gotten $500 or $600 back then.

The other vehicle was a '66 Sport Fury from my wife's, friend's mother who's husband died. My wife's friend knew I liked old Plymouths & told me her mom was looking to get rid of it. She said it was probably a $100 car, so I assumed it was a parts car. I went to look at it & found a fairly clean, very complete, running & driving car. I told her it was worth more than I could spend on an extra car & that she'd probably be able to get a good price if she put it in the paper. She said no, just make an offer. I said I didn't want to insult her, but expected a parts car.

She said $150 would be fine & I told her she might get closer to $1000 if she advertised it. Her answer was that she just wanted it gone & she had a newer car in better shape. I got it for $150, drove it on & off for a year, then sold it for $750. In both cases for me, the people I got the cars from didn't need the money. I never felt guilty since I was up front with what I felt was the right thing to do. If your grandmother is okay financially, she may not care what it's worth but you should still tell her it's not a $500 junker.

I seriously doubt the car is worth more than the both of you, it's just a car. This one sold for $34,000.

I just hope we haven't been punk'd....your grandmother supposedly has this near 50 year old car - - and you never had any idea she owned it?  (I think we need a smiley that looks like a fish - - because something smellls FISHY here).

I'm with the Cat on this one.  A new guy with 3 post joins the site and starts out with this question?  and Shakey thinks its rather odd that she's had this car for 50 years and he never knew about it? 

Where have you been all your life and where has your Granny been?  Different cities far away and your parents never took you to see her?

That would be a 1986 ford ltd crown vic in the picture.   I'm pretty sure dave was just pulling pics off the web to get an ltd up there and a galaxie.

82-87 Crown Vicky's are virtually identical.  Same grille, lamps, bumpers (with or without pads), etc.  Nothing in the picture gives it away as to what year it is.  The hood ornament was optional, but more common on the earlier (82-82) years.  The Ford oval on the grille tells you it must be 82 or newer.  And yes, I do this for a living; been doing this since 1978.

I agree with the LTD rundown given above but... this would be the reason I said 1986 LTD CV.

You should spend time with your grandparents no matter what. If they do have ie Daytona sitting in their garage or not. They're your grandparents. Spend all the time with granny that you can, once she's gone you won't get her back no matter what. You only realize that once they're gone.

When you refuse someone's gift, you are actually robbing them of the blessing of giving you a gift. Doesn't matter if it's a $1 or a $1,000,000. Don't 'cheat' Grandma out of doing something SHE really wants to do....
