Ok I plan on changing my cam, lifters, heads and timing chain...... I want to make sure I have everything I need before me and a friend change the parts out.

Here is a list I think I need please add or subtract anything I might have forgot...

valve cover gaskets
head gaskets
intake gaskets
cam lube
timing chain gasket
new head studs

is there anything else I need?

Could anyone give me some advice on a head gasket brand thickness etc...
This is for a 68 318 4bbl

Thanks in advance!

Exhaust gaskets and GM engine oil supplement.  A break in oil filter and one to replace it after break in too.

You will need to drain the antifreeze and replace, plus an oil change (Ghost already stated this).  Head gasket thickness is approximately .051 depending on type of materials and manufacturer.

Check your pushrods for straightness and imperfections.  A good gasket scrapper will save a lot of headaches when you are cleaning up.  And don't forget the gasket sealant.

good luck

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Better pick up a case of beer to add to your list.

Why the new head studs ? You could probably delete those and save some Cash, is this a Nitrous engine ?

No  Nitrous the reason for head studs is it would be better then trying to put the 40 year old bolts back on and it should be easier to install my new heads...

I just took apart old 72 440, never rebuilt, head bolts were in great shape

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

getting heads on & off in the car with heads tuds can be a big pain , the old bolts will be fine , clean them & oil them & reuse them
