How much do you guys think a power bulge hood costs for 74 in great shape. I mean no rust/dents, original steel hood.

I've seen them up to $1500.  The price of them has really shot up in the past year.  We got ours for $500.

I would agree with the $500-800, now if it was a R/T with insert $1500-2000, Ram charger, $2000, 25000.  The rear valance with cut outs are going for $400-700.  3rd Gen parts are just crazy.  I have been looking for vynil top trim for a 73 with a halo top for over a month now.

Yes alot of the parts are becoming harder to find.  I think we bought our rear valance with cutouts for $100.

Remember when looking for this hood (if it matters to you), 74's are different than 73's.  74's have no vents near the cowl I believe.

Personally, I refuse to pay the stupid prices for a bulge hood. When I get one it is going to be fiberglass. Less than $500. I have never found something I couldn't live without.

Yeah there is someone who makes fiberglass bulge hoods, I forget who

hemi-hampton

I paid $450 for mine off ebay but all riply & wavy & full of dents. A nicer one may be $1,000? LEON.

re: the differences as said 74's have no vents, 73's have a big gap between, 72's have a smaller gap and the vents go right across, 71's have no gap with vents all the way across but you can get them with the 72 style gap. the fiberglass hood thing i have heard it can be more trouble than its worth the place that sells them is in canada http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/charger.html but be careful, i have hear some sketchy stories when it comes to glass just be prepared for more work before it goes on your car. btw there is a place in the usa who make them as well just one style i think?

I`ve sold 2 decent ones in the last 2-3 years for 800-900 each and one with a rusted out frame a few months ago for $440, guess that makes me a greedy seller.   :slap:  :moon:

for $400 fiberglass or so bulged hood ( dunno exactly how much is the price ) I preffer to pay double for an original and lifetime hood if we talk about hemiheads price range. Of course, not those $2000 stupid prices, but thats a different story about Rammed hoods depending how much full equipped it is with rammed stuff.

My favourite bulged hood is 74 without cowl vents, not because is mine really because cleaner view. 74 hoods make you need the 74 wiper arms to install washer nozzles.. or modify the earliers and get the washer nozzles and hose brackets separatelly, what I think is harder :P

Beside that, I don't like R/T insert, I preffer Superbees. Would it be great both were usefull to engine performance. I think they can be modified to make them works, kinda the air ram, not the same but kinda

I say I won't pay the price for what bulge hoods are going for, but let me clarify. If I can find a steel hood for around $500 then I would buy one. Anything over that, to me is getting ridiculous. But my car is a driver, not a show car, so I could live with a less than perfect fiberglass hood.

And this is a bulge hood right? This is the car Max is talking about. I told him it was a bulge hood. Kind of looks like it to me, but I don't know third gens too well.

So..... let me get this right. if a fella puts a bulge hood on ebay ..... people bid on it and the seller ends up getting $1000 for the hood......somehow the seller is greedy? Yeah...that makes sense. :brickwall:

Most of this greed talk seems like verbal masturbation to me.   :o

If I sell a bulge hood, I would be selling it because I have a need for some $$$. Probably to continue work on the cars I have. Why would I not attempt to get top dollar for it?

Did you ever purchase a hood from them?

chgr500

I just recently sold my '74 ventless powerbulge hood off my car here locally..it was clean with no issues and I put it in the paper for $900 OBO truly not caring if it sold or not...sold within the week and the fellow paid the asking price without any offers...he was just happy with the condition...

Charger1973

I paid $1000 for mine, its rust and dent free and he was willing to deliver it 2 states away for $150.  I was (and still am) very happy with it.

jme72charger

I don't want to put $1,000 in a hood. So has anyone bought one of the fiberglass hoods?

RallyeMike

Quotere: the differences as said 74's have no vents, 73's have a big gap between, 72's have a smaller gap and the vents go right across, 71's have no gap with vents all the way across but you can get them with the 72 style gap. the fiberglass hood thing i have heard it can be more trouble than its worth the place that sells them is in canada http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/charger.html but be careful, i have hear some sketchy stories when it comes to glass just be prepared for more work before it goes on your car. btw there is a place in the usa who make them as well just one style i think?

And just to prove that no rule is firm, I own a January 7, 1974 build date 74 Rallye with a hood that has 73- vents and the 73-style wiper system. When I got the car it had original paint and still has the original 74 emission decal on it.

If anyone just has to have a steel one, I'll trade a very nice 73 bulge hood for a race weight bolt-on and $500.

Hmmm fiberglass hood huh....wonder how much $$ you would be into it before you can use it on your car?  needs lighter spings to be used or it will rip the hood at the mount....always need alot of prep work before any paint can happen...have poor mounting area for the hood latch pin and are known for flying off....no thanks

Now why hasn't any of these after market places made a "power bulge" add-on type scoop?
