I really love the look of the 3rd gen console and shifter.  I like the way it's so high on the passenger side and the T shifter handle.

My 68 console is pretty nice, but sort of square and generally boring.  I know some consider it to be sacrilidge, but has anyone ever tried it?

also, could a slap stick be made to work without major fabrication?

I can see, ( not sure at all ) shifter on 1st/2nds gens are more toward to front on the lenght and centered on width than 3rd gens what are toward to driver side and closer to center. Definitelly closer to driver in all dimensions. I think if you get 3rd gens console brackets you won't have problems at all. That would include the shifter brackets. Tranny hump should be aproximatelly the same.

Is just what I can see from the distance.

Another nice stuff about 3rd gens consoles is the shape emulates the dash pad shape... or backwards since 3rd gens console were used first on 70 E bodies with completelly different dash.

Somebody posted a piece to be installed on earliers shifters to make them work like a slapstick shifter. I think Chris (6T9Chrgr) knows about that.
