I have purchased two different brands of tubing flares and both seem to let the tubing slide through before letting the tool get the flare completed or even started.

Any tips???

In my experience you really have to crank down on the wing nuts of the tool.  Its best to tighten the one closest to the tube first & then the outer one to act like a cantilever

same problem here but I attributed it to a shitty flaring tool.  I solved that by buying the premade ones from the bin at the parts store.  I think if you put some bucks into a snap on or similar, you would not have the problem

the couple of flares I got to work I actually had to use pliers to crank down on the wing nuts.  Not how I imagine that tool was designed to be used.

put the tool in a vise...           make sure you arent using stainless tubing...    the flaring tools will allow the stainless to slide through...    you will have to buy a stainless steel specific flaring tool - ask me how i know    :brickwall:

thats why i got rid of the flaring tool that I had with the wingnuts and got one that uses a wrench to tighten it. now i dont have a problem.

I have a six dollar flaring kit from Auto Zone. Zero problems, and it has been used extensively.
