Bronzy, do you play acoustic as well? I remember when I started I was like you, into rock and my shredding phase. Never be shy to get into other styles of music. I was a little stuburn about it when I was younger but after seeing some live performances it made an impact. Diversify as much as possible. It'll only make you a more complete guitarist. Mess around with different styles if you can. (electric, acoustic, classical) Remember, chicks love the soft stuff :2thumbs:

A few years back I was at  a guitar store and everyone was whaling away. Mostly shredders trying to prove there skill by recycling random phrases as quickly as possible. Then a short mexican kid came in, picked up a classical guitar and just put then entire room to silence. Not that he was trying to show off but just that the sound was so fresh and different from the everyday that nobody could match that type of originality the kid brought. I gave him the props he deserved. It also led me to start playing flamenco.

The Godin looks great. Never seen one like it. I remember when they first came out years ago. My friend bought one and always thought they were very unique, kinda like Ovation.

Looking at the Oud, I can't see it playing like a 12-string. The strings seems a little too far apart.

Do you fret each string seperately? That'd be wild to learn!

I play 6 and 12 myself....

Never mind.. upon closer inspection I can see that all but the top string has a "paired" string.

*thinks about removing the top higher ocatave string and tuning as an Oud*

Hey? What's an Oud?

Brock Samson

yes, well,..
the conventional E Mag. finger positions simply wont work, each strings note needs to be properly placed and the best way to get it is to individually play each string's note like an arpeggio,.. and,.. the the gut strings plus lack of frets mean the notes attack and decay are short,.. very short,.. not a whole lot of sustain, shredding is not gonna happen... :icon_smile_wink:
so I'm playing everything slowly with alot of deliberation and incorporating as many harmonics as i can which both sustain and keep the accuracy of my fingering honest... kind'a like audio landmarks...
I have been collecting Cd's of north African music from Tunisia, Morocco and even from Pacific Islands from Japan to Tonga and I'm finding allot of slide guitar techniques like Hawaiian slack key and bottleneck slide styles are proving useful...
Staccato Picking in a Mediterranean style is working out pretty good for my right hand,..
Continually hitting open strings for a underneath ringing tone and playing over the top of them with phrases in between works pretty well too,..
