1969 dash dimmer switch

what holds the spring in at the panal switch ? is it glue of some sort ? ....any one know what kind,
    switch works but spring has come loose

If you are referring to the instrument light rotary dimmer.  The resistance coil is actually attached to the porceline wheel with epoxy.  Over time it gets brittle and falls apart.  Its impossible to do with the dimmer assembled but apart you can clean the wheel and coil and reattach with any non corrosive epoxy.  Just be sure the face of the coil that the contact rides on stays clean.The small contacts at each end are soldered on to the ends of the resistance wire.
I have a couple dissassembled now and can get some close ups tomorrow if needed.

thanks for the re[ply on this ive epoxied back in ...but from what i saw only on end of the spring is supossed to be connected

There is an article in one of the Mopar Magazines, can't recall if Mopar Action or Mopar Mucsle or another, but it's at the newsstand right now that describes the repair of these units.  Has nice pictures leading you through the process.
