Saw a 3rd Gen Charger at Eviction House (UPDATE : SOLD!)

When I read posts about guys who find Chargers they all sound a bit like articles from "Penthouse Forum" to me- - (you know, the ones that start out with "I never thought this would ever happen to me")  well ...this is kind of the same thing, with the only exception - - I don't end up getting lucky with the hot "desperate housewife" type  :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_tongue: - DARN!

Anyway, here's the deal about the Charger I found. I don't have all  of the details yet because the owner of the house is being evicted.

Its a 1973 Charger SE - 400 Magnum,  thats been parked in a garage for a long time. Its so dusty that it was hard to get a full detailed work up on it. But here's what I saw (I would've liked to get some pictures of it but didn't have a camera).

Color is A5 - Dark Silver Metallic, with black top (that looks mint and original), white bucket seats witth buddy seat (looks very nice), perfect black dash pad, perfect headliner, road wheels, slotted exhaust tips, air conditioning, factory cruise, power windows, rear defog, am/fm stereo with rear fader, original dual snorkel orange air cleaner.  It has all original looking paint, with no repairs, or bondo....but some minor rust. Not bad.

The trunk floor extensions are perfect, and so is trunk floor.   It also has rear sway bar.

The trim looks good, just needs a good cleaning and polishing.  Its a very honest looking project car.

Anybody interested?  If so, I can stop by later and get pictures. I would just hate to see it get sold to the local neighborhood scum for pennies on the dollar.   :'( :'( :'(

This leaves me puzzled.... you don't think the guy will sell to you cheap?  If anybody would be interested in it you should be.  You've done amazing things with rough cars... :icon_smile_big:

TUFCAT

Hey Bob - that car just aint my bag, baby!  plus.....I don't need another Charger in my life, especially a 3rd generation.... You know how that ended the first time - D-I-V-O-R-C-E!  :flame:  If it was a 340 Duster or 67 Coronet in that condition, it might be on the trailer right now!!!

If I could get it cheap - I 'll just end up flipping it.  I would much rather put someone in touch with the seller, and hopefully get a little commision for a trip to the nudie bar - you know, sumthin' nice - !

too bad i'm not close anymore.  that sounds like a great find!!  I love that color combo

Wish I had the 6k, it'd be worth coming to Detroit for it. It looks like a good cleaning and it'd look sharp.

Any license plates or inspection stickers that might suggest how long she's been sitting?  How many miles on the clock?  I'm not a big fan of 3rd Gens, but hey, she's got air, cruise and only 2 doors!   :icon_smile_big:

The owner of this car is NOT the tennant who is getting evicted.  The "evictee" is his buddy, and Chris, the owner was just storing the car in his garage.  The car is still there as of today.  It has been at this location for at least one year. Prior to that it was stored at his mother-in-laws house he said. Also, he bought the car in the early 1990's. It was an Arizona car originally, then Colorado, then Michigan in the early 90's. It has been sitting idle for at least 10 years.

Nice car although the $6k seems a bit to high.

exactly what I was thinking.  $3000 tops due to the condition it is in.

Yeah, and in 5 years you'll be kicking yourself for letting it get away at that price  :D

69charger2002

not to rain on anyone's parade..on the cars going up in value every 5 years... BUT i don't think that one will be "the one that got away" in 5 years. how many 73 SE's did they make again? A MILLION??? more than any other year charger if i'm not mistaken. i think even with these cars drying up you can drive around the corner and find another 73 SE cheaper

Dave22443

Not contesting that at all Trav.  In fact, I totally agree.  But I couldn't help but think back to my own Charger when I bought it.  I paid full NADA price and kinda worried about it at the time.  But my particular Charger had a history special to me only so it was worth it.  Now I look back on what I paid 10 years ago and think I stole it compaired to what its worth now.  :yesnod:

High Impact

I posted a wanted ad in the Michingan auto rv book looking for any and all Charger in "Rusted,Busted,or broken"  condition,  and I got a TON OF CALLS!!!!!!!!!      with 99% of them being 73-4 chargers.  That guy called me and it sounded good but alittle to high priced!  It has some cool options but he also said the front of the motor was taken apart and that he's had no time to re-assemble it......so you couldn't even hear it run!  Looks nice....kinda like I pictured in my mind.  Someone will get it  :yesnod:

WHAT???????????????????????   Oh.... don't tell Rob.

Update: the car was sold to some nice folks from Canada (who are members of this board)

Sorry, Rob, aka "DUDE" - - I forgot... you are supposed to be the first person in the world to be told where every Charger is so you can make a ridiculous low-ball offer on it.  My mistake.... because I told you about this car back in Novemeber. Won't happen again.   :'( :'( :'(

chargerkid

whoa..wait a minute.  You called me in Nov. to ask if it was worth it.  I told you it wasn't it my opinion. You never called me back and mentioned anything about an eviction notice.  You never gave me any details because you wanted to buy it to flip.  Get the story straight.  Any way, looks like it went to a good home.  See at you at Carlisle.

If I wanted to flip it - I would have.  Don't make me the victim.  I'd rather get a steak dinner and see it go to a good home....which is quite honestly  (exactly what I got)  and man, that was a good ribeye!!  :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_tongue:

Well, its the first time I've been called "NICE FOLKS" but yes my brother and I drove down to Detroit and negotiated the purchase of the car. Its a keeper and will be back on the road soon. When we got back we even took it to cruise night (on the trailer). Little bit of cleaning and it looks not too bad.

No need to thank me fellas,  I'm just glad you guys got the car   I also heard the story about how your Dad owned one just like this when it was new.....now that's plain old "Cool as Hell"  :2thumbs:  Good luck with this project, and lets see some restoration pictures posted. BTW, you have VERY nice bronze charger there !!   Tcat

pettyfan43

My 73 SE was the same color originally with a black interior, mine has buckets console, slap stik and am/Fm with a rear window defogger and ONE rear speaker. My car originally had the ugly full wheel covers though.

COOL car. great find.

Nacho-RT74

Hey Terry long time without see you, and you did it on the best way, with a new car... Good you got it... at least is in good hands  so you now have a Hardtop and a SE, both 73... now just need a Coupe ;)

Well a little bit more about the past but yes we had a Charger almost the same back in the days and a friend of mine had a Trans Am. He kept the Trans Am in storage for almost 30 years but it now has a spot in my garage. The original Charger fell victim to accident and rust and was retired. Here is a pic of both cars but the charger's roof is the only thing visible. And the Firebird today

73ChargerSE

Is that an Arizona plate on the front of the Charger?

chargerkid

Tufcat, 72ChargerSE, and Mr. G,

I am taking off for Carlisle.  Have a safe trip there.  We'll be in the same spot as usual.  Look for the 71 Cuda, red 70 AAR, and my 70 Superbee.  We'll have some cold ones waiting for guys once you arrive.

greatwn73

Well just thought I'd let everyone know it runs and moves under its own power. We finished reassembling the motor tonight and and with a little squirt of gas down the carb it fired and ran perfect. A couple of small leaks were easily resolved and we drove it out of the garage. Everything seems to work except the AC. The air shocks were pumped up and now the car sits level and straight.

Dave22443

Cool!  You've got it home... got it all cleaned up... running good... cruising the hood...

Now there's only one thing you need to do to make this thread complete...

PICS!!!!!!!!
