I was wondering on my 318 would a K&N  be any improvment over the paper filter? and if so would it be worth buying one? I do not have a stock air cleaner assembly, I have an after market assembly.

They are very good quality! I have one on my 318.

I am going to get one for my 318.

I was looking on the K&N website and found xtreme airfilter tops does anyone know anything about these if they are worth buying or keeping my chrome aircleaner top?

Looks like a good idea. I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend $150 on an air filter yet. :scratchchin: Who knows?

I've ran them in the past and currently run one in every vehicle I own.  I love the performance and fuel mileage that It has increased in my Cummins, I'm getting 20.2 average.  However, unless you are building a race car, the extreme filter top is not worth it on a street car.  THe cost vs the benefits just makes it not pratical.  It doesn't do a whole lot so you won't even notice the difference between the chrome lid and the filter top lid.

In some cases the flo thru top will make a big difference. Case in point ; those running a taller aluminum intake manifold will have to use a drop base air cleaner assembly to clear the hood. If your carb has a choke horn, then using the drop base will put the horn too close to the lid and create a big restriction.  :P This is where the flo thru tops come in handy....the primary venturies are able to pull air from the sides and  the top.  ;)

K&N is a very good product.....i run them on everything....including my Bike  :yesnod:

Ps. When installing this type of filter you will have to jet up because the extra air will create a lean condition.
