HOW HAS THE NEW GAS PRICES AFFECTED YOUR DRIVING HABITS?

I personally have begun driving 50 mph WHENVER I GET ON THE HIGHWAY in my '05 quad cab dodge.  I get 19.8 mpg highway at that speed.  That is the best the vehicle gets, and I have tried from 45mph through 70 mph and found that 50 mph is the best speed to gas mileage correlation.

I have also slowly transitioned to speed, rather than rompin on it... though the magnaflows do sound nice with the 5.7L. :D

What have you done to lower your usage of gasoline intake?

I have parked my 1990 Dodge Ram for now and drive my lil car. I also drive less. Walk more!

pettyfan43

I'm more selective of where I go and try to make the most of trips when I do go.

I'm also about to get a tag and insurance on the old Intrepid again. The car I drove before I got my Ram. My truck gets about 17-18, THe intrepid gets around 27.

I tried to sell it and nobody was interested so I'll drive it till it dies!

Todd Wilson

I too have parked my Dodge trucks for the most part. If I need a truck they get used for the duty at hand. I been driving the old Honda Prelude beater car everyday now. The Chargers rarely see day light anymore but its not so much gas prices there. I been thinking about buying a Whizzer.

I bought a beater '87 Fiero GT.  Gets good mpg, and its fun to drive....    :icon_smile_cool:

I drive about 60 miles a day going back and fourth to work. It's killing me. I spend $80 a week in gas. I am looking into buying a little beater car to use for work. My truck is going to bankrupt me.

Charger1973

I just drive less...  My Blazer gets horrible mileage but its to be expected since its a 79 with a 350 4 speed.  I  bought an 92 S10 for $500 to drive to school, its a beater but its a V6 with a 5 speed, and gets about 20 mpg and its even expensive to take back and forth.  I decided to take one of my summer classes online, so that cuts down on my driving by 1/2.  I stopped driving the Charger completely except test drives while im working on it.  Its all I can do for now.

My 318 truck gets driven slightly less than before, but overall I don't live much differently at all.

In my opinion, driving 50 mph on the highway because your *'05 quad cab dodge* gets crappy mileage is ridiculous. Of course, if you were in Ohio you'd be in the left hand lane... ;)

I haven't changed a thing when it comes to driving habits. I have to go to work every day so I do. I visit my parents on the weekends and I'm not changing that just because it costs a few dollars more. My Barracuda gets better gas mileage than my daily driver so I won't even stop driving my old cars. As a matter of fact, now that regular gasoline is way more expensive than diesel again I might start driving the dually more often. Since it's summer I could ride my motorcycle more but, in reference to my comment above, Ohio drivers are complete morons (although I'm sure we don't have a monopoly!). I won't take that to work since it would be rush hour on the highways. I saw a wreck the other day where a guy hit a dump truck in a construction zone right next to the sign that says "trucks entering the highway". I didn't have my camera but I carry it every day now.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I used to have a Bonneville SSEi and the wife had a loaded Crapavan. I now have a Turdcel and she a Hyunyucki. When we had the Bunnyville and Crapavan it cost me about $70 a week in fuel. Today the Turdcel and Hyunyucki cost me $70 a week in fuel to drive tin crapwagons.
I used to drive the road runner and Charger several times a week each. Now if I get any or either out once a month it is something. They are relagate to 2 ton paperweight status.

LOL!  good thing, here in Kansas, we do not have the thriving metropolis as you all in the Cincy' area have.  Less people to get mad at me or likely to do a road rage drive by on me!   Oh well, tractors are everywhere, as well as trains, so having to slow down or stop is not an uncommon experience.  Most people just pass me with no disdain or dirty looks, well... most people  ::)

I just heard on this mornings news that Gas usage is down here in Calif, first time in ten years...
the short report was scarce on details and i'll check into it and get a link...

i searched a couple injuns and couldn't find anything on decreased usage in cal. or anywhere...  :scratchchin: more BS from the liberal media i guess...

i did find this though,..
kind of interesting for a perspective from non muscle car folks who are paying the highest prices in the nation..

eGO Cycle 2 (Classic and LX)

Not quite a bike, scooter, or moped, but the best of all three.

The eGO Cycle 2 is easy to ride like a bicycle, designed to get the job done, and built to last.

The eGO chassis is sculpture in motion. Precision tooled T6000 aircraft-grade aluminum is precisely aligned and TIG welded into an incredibly strong yet arrestingly beautiful monocoque chassis with room inside to hold batteries, electronics, and drive components.  The chassis is heat treated, sand blasted and silver anodized for strength, scratch resistance and exceptional durability.

The eGO Cycle 2 comes in two versions - Classic and LX. The eGO Classic is perfect for casual commuters, errand runners and for RV users. The eGO LX is designed for daily commuters and errand runners who will be driving in moderate to heavy traffic. The LX is fully equipped for registration in any state and includes front and rear turn signals, left grip lighting, turn signal and horn controls, backlit speedometer/odometer.

Both eGO Cycle 2 models can go 23 mph in "Go Fast" mode and up to 25 miles in "Go Far" mode.   (Add 50% more range with the Extended Range Battery Pack (XR Pack) accessory.)   Acceleration is 0 to 20 mph in less than 4 seconds.   Relaxing the throttle automatically activates the regenerative braking feature and brake light.  For more stopping power, there's a front disc brake and a rear caliper brake.

Assembly involves a few simple steps, and can be accomplished using the tools included with the package. Also, there is an excellent instruction manual describing the assembly procedure and lots of other technical and service information as well.

so for a run to the store for bannanas and milk it's perfect and i don't have to worry about losing my parking space...
and since work is only seven miles away i could do that run easy,.. assuming i still have a job of course...

I just recently bought an old Honda CB125 - more for the fun factor than for gas savings.

My 01' Dodge Ram with a 318 has one of those mpg thingys on the upper console. If I go 50 I would get 19 maybe. I just did a 700 mile trip over the weekend and got around 15-16 mpg doing 55-80 mph. What I have done about gas prices is drive less. I have put just over 3,000 miles on my truck in the last 8 months. I drive it to work everyday.............Im not gonna get a Toyota or a Honda!!!  :pity:

I have to go to work (60+ miles roundtrip) ... but if I feel like taking a halfday vacation,  I'm much more likely to just  take the whole day off - or just stay at work the whole day and take another whole day off later.

I make one trip a day towards Kingston (Home Depot / Lowes, Sears, the mall, Autozone, etc.).   If I can I'll hit them on the way home from work.   If I forgot something it'll wait until tomorrow.

I'm not following my friend to every 2 bit car show in 6 counties this year so he can sell $11 worth of polish.

Saturday nights is reserved for going to the cruise-in 1/2 mile from my house.

Well I drive about the same, but I don't have the lightning anymore. The ex took it in the divorce. I bought an 03 cobra and it gets 18mpg in the city. The lightning gets about 13mpg so I laugh that my ex has to drive that crap around and she drives like a moron.

You make adjustments for what you have to deal with. It's just life, we are more careful when we go and make sure we get EVERYTHING done we need to do.

These artificial price hikes are BS though. It is gouging because the oil companies KNOW that people will be traveling in the summer months. They can make all the excuses they like, but when they are INTENTIONALLY making it harder for people to get to work just to record yet another record profit, they are just sorry. They are wrong, and they don't care. Gas prices have jumped BIG TIME recently while oil prices have remained pretty steady.

It's price gouging without a major catastrophe to blame it on. They liked the big profits they got when the hurricanes hit, they are just after that again.

That's the way I see it, anyway. I have heard no tangible reasons for the jump in price, just doubletalk but they know they have the keys to the kingdom.

I just wish one company would have the b@!!$ to break the cycle and drop prices and put a real hurt on the rest of em! I'd fill up everything in the Driveway!!!!!!!!!

:iagree:

So...  what do you think the gas prices will do when the world moves on to 150 MPG cars or another fuel?   When the demand for gas goes down, will the prices?

My '89 Dodge Ram (14mpg) is getting sold and I'm buying a 98 Mercury Mystique (30+ mpg) for the same price.  So my vehicle cost is balanced out and my gas usage is cut in half.  But I somehow suspect that my checkbook wont show anymore money in it at the end of the month. :brickwall:..  How does that happen?  :-\

I got rid of the SRT-10. On a good day it would get about 9MPG.  And of course it would only run on premium.  I drive 84 miles round trip every day with my Mega-Cab.  It's about $100 to fill it up with the price of gas being over $3, but I only have to fill it once a week.

Hasn't really changed mine that much. 90% of my driving is to and from work and to see my girlfriend. I get enough driving at work. Although, gas prices have affected my spending habits and spending money that would be going into my Charger and Dakota. :P

When I get my Charger done Im gonna drive the crap out of it. I don't care how much it goes up. I am not gonna restore it to sit around. It has done that for the last 30 years as it is. We gotta drive them as much as we can before we leave for the promise land :yesnod:

I haven't changed my driving habits...although I seem to habitually use the bird more, but that's just because the moronic drivers seem to be multiplying. :D

However, this year my mode of transportation gets a steady 28mpg. Last year's vehicle got 18mpg...so this summer, my monthly gas bill doesn't sting my wallet quite as bad. :)

I just bought a '96 Escort LX 2dr 5-speed for $800, so I can stop using my '02 F250 as a daily driver.  I've heard from a couple of guys that it should get about 33 mpg, but I haven't put a full tank through it yet.  100 miles, and still showing over 3/4 of a tank.  My truck was getting 14 mpg.  I figure it'll pay for itself by the end of the year, and it's actually kind of fun to drive.  I'd considered buying a SL6 Duster, but I think this makes for a better daily driver.  Drivers suck around here, and at least this thing has an airbag.  I'm hoping I don't get creamed by some idiot in an Escalade talking on his cell phone though, 'cuz the Escort's gonna lose.
