My charger is still at the body shop 5 months  :brickwall: anyway I had a custom fiberglass hood with challenger TA scoop added on. My question is what finish was factory for sixpack or challenger hoods? The body shop is telling me that they want to spray it with "Argnsal -Spelling?" Paint. He tells me its textured and flat black, and will help hide some of the little flaws fiberglass comes with. They did spray two coats of fillerprimer but this hood was rouge from 22unlimited. At the TCD charger meet all the blacked out hoods were painted just a flat black, but I could even see the grain of the fiberglass in one  :-X, I have never seen this textured mopar paint, what do you think?

Then he tells me I cant use a sponge to wash it, That they use a tire cleaner.  Do you have any pics of this textured finish? What are you thoughts?

The car is viper red with a black vinyl top and viper black tail stripe with viper black on the tail panel and two call outs on the doors., So except for the vinyl top this will be the only non shinny black on my charger.

They used a paint called "Organosol" which you can get from Year One ($139/Quart). I did my 6 Pack hood in it about a year ago for my Charger. It scratches very very easy and the textured finish is hard to wash and dry.  There is a guy that does Mopar restorations called Restro Rick that was messing around with a Acrylic Urethane Organsol paint. Here is his website link: http://www.restorick.com/ I think that will hold up much better than the lacquer based paint from Year One.

I'm in the process of repainting my 6 Pack hood and will go with a smooth flat black finish.

1971SE440 did you like the look of the paint on your hood with your car? Do you have any pic's?  Thanks for the insite. Mike

It was nice. The textured finish did hide many flaws in the fiberglass. Here is one photo of the hood. It is hard to see the texture. The only thing I did not like was that it scratched to easy.

Ditler (a.k.a. PPG) DDL #9355 if I remember right is the Organisol Textured black you want. I did not like the Enamal or urethane when I used it, to shiny as some clown forgot to add Flattening agent. Heres a possible alternative. I just did a dart & they wanted the hood flat black like the Mopars have. But did not like the hard to clean textured laquer Idea. SO, I did it Base Coat Clear coat. Only thing is I added lots of Flattening agent to the clear for that Flat look, Looked great & they loved it, Plus, being cleared protects from the elements but easy to wash & still looks factory besides the non textured look. You can get Organosol a hell of alot cheaper than $140 a quart at autocolorlibrary.com.

Think I paid around $65 at local PPG Paint supply store. LEON.

You are lucky you can get it your way. Few states allow shops to mix lacquers, which is what is needed to create the textured finish.

True, I also heard that some of the original ingredients in Organasol were outlawed as well....
