What the #@&*%#! happened to Tim Horton's???

 I'm a coffee drinker. :icon_smile_big:
As a matter of fact, you could say I'm addicted to coffee. Not only does it get me up and running for the day, but it keeps me regular! :-X
And my poison of choice for the last 20 years has been Tim Hortons.
It was a ritual to head to the drive-through before work every day, regardless of where I worked. And with each coffee there HAD to be a donut.
But not just ANY donut would do - it had to be a walnut crunch.
MAN! Those things were good!
They were more than a chocolate donut, they were a glazed, heavy, nut-filled brownie....argh! For an avowed chocolate lover, they were nirvana. :D

Then one day I heard that my beloved Tim Hortons is sold.  :icon_smile_sad:
To the same company that owns Wendy's restaurants. No big surprise...the menu changes.
And my walnut crunch turns into a lite and fluffy shadow of it's former self.  :'(

OK. The donut is gone, but the coffee lives on! Right?
Geez! Just the other day I asked for my regular "double-double", and what I got was akin to a mouth full of banality!
Say it isn't so!!
So I tried another outlet yesterday...same thing.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!????!!!
I've a mind to try and boycott their business! :flame:

(If I can somehow muster the intestional fortitude....I'm also addicted to "roll up the rim".) ::)

Ok, so my wife turned me on to Tim Hortons.  It is ok coffee.  IMO dunkin Donuts is better, but I refuse to go there because their coffee is 20 cents higher.  I have a problem with them not serving sandwiches after 11am and they can never here me through that speaker.  I always order a medium light and sweet and 2 chocolate dipped donuts and they can never get it right.  Then, they look at me like I should tip them.  Oh by the way, I commented on this on my gas station boycott thread

I don't know maybe they fell victim to the no trans fat nazis and they decided to kill the taste?

I like Tim Hortons when I am in Canada their coffee beats Starchucks hands down. I know that Wendys was looking to sell off the TH portion of their business. Maybe they were sold off to someone and the new owners wife never did like the taste of the coffee and watered it down to her liking

Wendys has no control over or influence over what Tim Hortons does or sells from an operational perspective. Likely the Walnut Crunch was a poor seller and had to gp. You just happened to be the poor slob who loved them.  :pity:

The coffee recipe is the same. No change. You likely got a bad batch. It happens. Starbucks has a bad batch EVERY day...burnt bitter coffee.

I have dealings with THL HQ and I can ask why the Walnut thing got axed.

For you Tim Hortons lovers out there....watch your stores....something new is coming!!

70charger_boy

the coffee has been tasting watered down lately

TUFCAT

I like DD's brew a lot better. I always go with french Vanilla flavor, no sugar, and double cream.  For a donut, I like Sour Cream donuts. I know, it sounds bad - but tastes GREAT!!

To me, Tim Hortons coffee always tastes like its burned.

as dennis leary put it...."why can't i just get a coffee flavored coffee anymore?"
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Hmm.. must be a US thing..

That "crack-in-a-cup" stills taste the same here.
and Walnut crunch is the same here too.

The funny thing about Wlanut crunch doughnuts is that, by themselves, they're just okay. However, take a bite and then a sip of Tim's coffee and it's a whole different story!

A little bit of trivia..... You all know that Tim Horton was a hockey player, right? No? Now you do.
You know that he died in a car accident, right? No? Now you do.

You know what they found in the trunk of his car during the accident investigation?

Oh one bit, died driving he crashed his car because he had spilled some hot TH coffee in his lap burning him in the privates and ran off the road because he was distracted with the spill.

Incase anyone wants the REAL truths  :icon_smile_big:

In 1964, Horton opened his first Tim Horton's Donut Shop in Hamilton, Ontario.[3] He even added a few of his culinary creations to the initial menu. By 1965, Horton had partnered with investor Ron Joyce, who quickly took over operations and expanded the chain into a multi-million dollar franchise system.

In addition to his shops in Canada, Buffalo, New York has over 80 Tim Horton's Doughnut Shops, and they can be found in Detroit, Michigan, Columbus, Ohio and other American cities.

Early on the morning of 21 February 1974, while driving on the Queen Elizabeth Way from Toronto to Buffalo in his white De Tomaso Pantera sports car, (a gift from Sabres' GM George "Punch" Imlach), Horton was involved in what is now an infamous accident. He was negotiating a curve on the QEW where it crosses over Twelve Mile Creek in St. Catharines, Ontario when he lost control and hit a cement culvert. The impact flipped the vehicle and Horton was thrown. He was not wearing a seat belt. Horton was reported dead on arrival at the local hospital. A police officer pursuing Horton's vehicle said that he had been travelling at over 160 km/h (100 mph).

There were reports Horton had consumed a considerable amount of vodka, and was rumoured to have been taking pain killers due to a jaw injury suffered in practice the day before. An autopsy report released in 2005 showed Horton had a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit. The blood test also showed signs of amobarbital, which was possibly a residue from the Dexamyl pills that were found on Horton's body. Dexamyl was a prescription drug that mixed an amphetamine with a depressant. The autopsy showed no indication Horton was taking painkillers as previously thought.

In order to milk the very last dime out of the outlets, half baked (yes) donuts were sent in cold stasis to the outlets for final cooking so to be passed off as "fresh". In this way bakers at all the outlets could be pared back and control over product became centralized. You will note that almost all the donuts are now smaller and don't taste quite the same as they did before the switch. I pretty much have given up on the donut end of Timmie's and with that my consumption of their coffee has also decreased.

And with the switch, came the end of the good walnut crunches. Too bad.

With regards to the accident, it was my understanding that there was a slight frost heave in the road, that if traversed at normal speed (60mph) would barely perceptable. However, given the speed Horton was travelling in his Pantera, it likely put him temporarily airborne, and on a curve, well ....that's a recipe for a donut of the non-delicious type.

Yep.  A good friend of mine had been a baker at Tims for the last 20 years and was reduced to what basically amounted to microwaving donuts trucked in from the regional warehouse (75 miles away).  Of course the reduced skills needed for this meant that his boss also felt he was now being overpaid.  It also meant that he was relegated to an 11pm to sunrise shift because that was the only time he was needed.  He had formerly been straight days when they were baked fresh as he was the senior baker.  The other bakers were let go outright.
It has a happy ending though as he went somewhere else for a lot more money.  Now he can finish his 340 Dart.

However, the sandwiches they make are great.  I'd say it's the best value out there for lunch.  $7.00 CAD gets you a hearty & mostly healthy sandwich, a donut and a bottle of water.

Hurry up Don!

slight frost heave in the road,

Lies! All lies!!!    There's no such thing as a SLIGHT  frost heave on the QEW!

:icon_smile_big:

If ever want to catch some air on a public highway, get up a good head of steam while travelling Niagara bound on the QEW. Get in the left lane just as you pass Victoria road.
You'll cross over the bridge over the water at Jordon Harbour. The road drops out from under you as you leave the far end of the bridge.
It's getting close to dangerous at normal speeds.

Being from Alberta, and formerly New Brunswick, the concept of electronic toll highways in Ontario was a real eye-opener to say the least.
Especially after borrowing a friend's Windstar and inadvertantly racking up a bill, which was sent to him.
I figured the toll business would at least provide a better highway system, sans frost heaves. I was very wrong!

Yeah, but the tolls taken from the 407...do they not go into infrastructure improvements, including keeping the QEW nice and lump free?
