Well, we might be getting another Charger in the next few weeks.  And I want yalls opinion on this one.  Dad found one near us, its a 66' that has been almost fully restored.  Has a 400 in it, not sure on the transmission yet.  The people want $8,500 for it.  Is this a good deal?  Or should we pass it up.  I already turned down dads offer of selling the 73' and buying the 66'.  I just don't really like the way the 66' looks.  So should dad buy it?  And if so then is $8,500 too much...

Im not up on 1st gen prices but they grow on you.  They really are neat cars.

Forza

I started out a diehard 68 fan, and 68 only.  But after I started looking at first gens they sure do grow on you. I'd say 8500 sounds good if it really is restored but I'd be sure to check it over good and get pics. No need to rush into it. Good luck to ya.

If he's wanting a first generation car, check out the taillight lens and the C-chromes these are the trim pieces at the front edge of the fender.
These are two really expensive parts, but more and more pieces are being repopped all the time. C-chromes are now available as are the c-shaped taillight surround chrome.

The door panels are a molded panel that is NOT reproduced and can be tough to find. The dashpad is even unique to the Charger in 66-67.
The other big deal is the guages, they are electroluminescent. They aren't like any other Mopar, they are pretty sophisticated and were ahead of their time.
The headlight setup is a rotating pod rather than headlight doors and each one has its own motor and all.

Check to see all this stuff is in good shape for that money, because you can get a NICE car for that or pretty close RIGHT NOW, but that is changing rapidly. The first and third generation cars are climbing fairly quickly now.

Check for rust in the lower quarters, around the taillight under the decklid and around the back window and along the sail panels.

Good luck!

I got lucky, I bought my car not knowing a lot of the stuff I just told you, I got a really decent car about two years ago for nice money. All the above was A OK .

If you do buy the car, sign up on www.66-67charger.com There is a source guide and the guys over there are invaluable when it comes to info on these cars.

If I can help. email me at the address in my profile!

And you can get waaaay more stuff in the back of a 1st gen Charger for those long trip hauls than you can in any other B-body except for a wagon.
If the car is in good shape, 8500 is a good deal.

Gotta say that I used to feel like Forza liking the '68 only, but since I got mine, I am appreciating the first gens more and more.  In fact, at some point, I would love to have one myself.  $8500 for any truly restored Mopar is a pretty good deal.

If you really don't care for the ist gen, why would you buy it?  Spend your $8500 on a 2nd or 3rd gen.  I am sure there are paople outhere who's dream car is a 66 Charger.

Cuz he already has a 3rd gen and his dad is buying it?   I'm only guessing though.
