I'm trying to button up my winter projects and get the car back on the road.  I've got the new Y/O dash harness installed.  When testing thiings out, the emergency flashers don't work.  The switch is working because you can hear the flasher clicking.  All exterior lights are working except the flashing function.  I've got a shop manual for a '68 and everything appears to be correctly wired.  The shop manual shows the switch terminals but not a contact configuration, making it hard to follow the schematic.  They functioned fine with the old harness.  Any ideas???  Trying to test the harness out now is going to be a major headache.   :flame: :flame:        Thanks, Bob

Just a bump here with another comment.  Doesn't the flasher require a load on it to function?  When I turn on the switch it clicks but no lights anywhere.  The lights function fine for the turn signals and brakes but no go from the EM flasher switch.  A continuity check across the switch suggests that its working.  Maybe high resistance across the old contacts in the switch?  Anyway, it's on the road now and I won't be messing around under there until next winter.  I just better not get in a position of needing EM flashers this year ::)  Bob

The 4 way flasher needs a load just like the turn signal does.  Did you try another 4 way flasher?

Plumecrazy, I'm not sure what you mean by a 4 way flasher. The socket for the EM flasher is the same as the turn signal flasher.  I've tried the flasher that was in there before with with no success.  The new flasher I tried is the same as the turn signal (I think a #552) .  It makes the appropriate clicking noise but no results at the lights.  I'm very confused.  Bob

4 way flasher = EM flasher, same thing.  I've always called them 4 way flashers.

Standard flashers are load sensitive, thats why the turn signal and 4 way flashers are different numbers.  The 4 way is going to have twice the load on it.   I'm thinking you may have whats called a heavy duty flasher for the 4 ways.  Those were usually used when you had a trailer.
They would flash at the same rate regardless of the number of bulbs it was flashing.  That would explain why its clicking with no lights flashing.  You may have a bad T/S switch or the harness is wired wrong.  The 4 way switch feeds power out to the flasher but then it comes back to the T/S switch to be distributed.

Even though I tried the old Flasher that had worked before, to no avail, I bought one of those razoooo $11.00 electronic flashers from Shucks Auto.  I now have functioning flashers.  I guess the old (and new replacement) flasher were so close to their limit with all the lights (eight including dash lights) that they just decided not to function with the new wiring harness.  Life is good.  Bob   ;D ;D ;D ;D
