couple of questions before tonights install:

-do i put the tape on the car window channel or the window its self?

-if on window on the edge or is there any spacing from the edge to put the tape on?

-how hard to press down on the glass and hold till good and secure?

thanks

I hate to sound like a jerk here, but if you have to ask those questions it might be best to have a professional do it. You have to make sure the lip the window sits on is clean, then you just have to put the buytl tape on the lip of the car, not on the glass itself. then have a buddy help to make sure the windshield is lined up and press down firm enough to seat it, and sometimes I use a heat gun to help seat it like I did earlier today on a firebird windshield. oh yeah, make sure the glass is clean too.

hi guys i own a autoglass comp in alabama few tips for you .. #1 when the charger was made all we had back then to install that type of glass was butyl sealer for its time it was fine but buytl acts like a sponge too ..what i do and many may frown upon it since it isnt factory is i prep and prime my pincheweld and glass according to manufactures recomondations then with a battery powered caulkinggun i run my 3/8 bead of urethane arround the pinchweld then with an assitant we lay the glass in pressing lighty so the glue seals a little. then we snap on the reveal mldings wich settles the glass  to where it suppose to be leaving a perfect gap between mldgs everytime the adavantage of urethane is its 100% waterproof  gives a stonger install and will outlast any butyl tape hope this tips helps out some of you do it youreselfers out there

That is OK . I also installed auto glass for 10 years and now do high end restorations . I insist on perfection and the problem I see with your method is the ureathane will be seen and not have a straight edge , as you know all modern era cars have a black band so you don't see the ureathane . Here is what I do after prepping glass and pichweld , I tape the edge of glass with 5/16 or 3/ 8 butyl tape , depending on model . When a car leaves my shop , you can look around moldings and see a straight clean job with no mess . Just my two cents !!!!1Larry

I'm also about to install my rear window.  However, i have twice the problems.  It seems that the last person that fixed the window channel covered all the window moulding clip holes.  So I have to figure out a way to drill new holes (in the correct spot). I also don't think I can get butyl tape where i live .  Also, concerning the urethane, if you use a 3/8 inch strip of urethane, and place the window down, won't it squeeze the urethane to less than a 3/8 inch gap?  Or is this urethane hard?

the  urethane comes in a tube unless you have    experiance using it i think a professional  should do it   it can be messy  also you must have a glass replacement facility   near you thay can get you the 3/8 butyl tape kit
