Since the topic Car show is petty discuss  lately, I have one question:

When putting your car in a car show, do you stay with your car or leave to see other??

I'm asking because last time I want to a show I remeber seeing this couple who actually didn't move from there place all day! I pass thought there car (Volare) maybe a dozen time over the day, then decide finally go see him, I told i'm that somebody as the same car over the end of the field (same color but different wheel). He told me he haven't see it because he didn't leave the car and he will never leave it alone!! :-\
The car was in ok condition, not perfect, but there was a Hemicuda with nobody around just couple car away..... :scratchchin:

So what your preference??

It's been a few years since I've had a car in a show or at a cruise, but here's what I've done & will always do:

Arrive at show or cruise
Park my car at show or cruise
Ignore my car at show or cruise
Enjoy all the other cars & talk to people at show or cruise
Return to my car after most, if not all the other cars have left the show or cruise
Throw away 123 various fliers for other shows & cruises that I can't go to

I've never worried about judging, so most times I've never registered the car. The best times are when you have the least to do or worry about. (For me anyway.)

Being as how this is an environment where others are attending these events for the same reasons...I'd say....walk around, be sociable, meet people, and have a good time.  I believe that these are the places where you would have to worry about your car the least.  You may be missing something if you don't meander about.  That is what these functions are all about.  To me...it's not really a competition, but it's more of a fellowship.  I, myself....when attending the cruise in or what-not....1....Park car....2....Get out...3....Be sociable and meet people who share the same passions for the hobby.  I think somebody who stays with their car the entire time.....well....they are there for the wrong reasons  because the function isn't just about them...it's about everybody getting together and having a good time.  Plus  I think that's a pretty anal thing to do to just sit there because you would be missing out on meeting a lot of great folks!!!    Just my two cents worth!!!    Ace

That is exactly what I do.

I could not sit there by my car all day long. There are a few people in my club that do sit there all stinkin day long though.

My friend left his car for about 2 hrs this weekend with the windows down and the hood up. I was amazed that he was so trusting. When we came back it was fine but it did have some fingerprints all on the glass and doors.

Get out meet people and go check out the show, remember, 99% of the people at the show DON'T KNOW who owns a car! They don't know when the owner may be looking over their shoulder or if the guy at the next car is the owner or KNOWS the owner!

Car shows are probably one of the safest places to leave your car. It's in more danger at the hotel parking lot on overnight shows than sitting on a show field.

Lock up what needs to be locked up and enjoy yourself.

I guess I am in the minority.  I just dont trust people I dont know.

I have seen people open cars and get in them, open hoods, dig through trunks, put their kids inside for pictures, lean over the fenders/doors, lean against the car, sit on the hood/fenders, stand there and lean with their hand on a car, set their drink down on top of a car...  I have heard alot of other stories of people riding by with bikes and scratching cars or getting too close with a stroller...  Hell a friend told me someone tried to steal the upper door pads right out of his 69 one time at a local cruise in.   :rotz:

I at least have somebody stay with the car at all times now. I had an unfortunate accident at one, where some jerk parents let their young son race his matchbox cars across my paint. then just laughed when i confronted him about it. ive still got scratches in the paint, the kid must have been pushing REALLY hard.

We took my chally to Van Nuys a few years back and we locked up the valuables (which were non existent since we knew we were going to the show) and walked around.  I came backevery once and while to check on her, nothing bad happened.  We were at the Van Nuys show this year (without a car  :( ) and my oldest daughter and I were walking around I made dang sure to keep her away from the cars.  We were admiring a Prowler and the owner was right there..I told my daughter to not touch it or anything...and he actually opened the car door and told her to hop in!!!!  She did and my heart was fluttering the whole time..I told her not to touch anything inside the car while she was sitting there and the guy said "hey don't worry". Man it freaked me out...I could not wait to get her out of the car.  Man if anything happened I would have shot myself!  So my advice is....it depends on the condition of your car and your personal feelings.

I guess I've been lucky all these years.  I usually get to the show, spend about an hour wiping it down and cleaning some things up after I go register, and then I walk around.  I come back occasionally to sit and have a pop and rest from walking.   Maybe sit for 30 minutes, and then I'm off again.  If I go to a show, I want to see all the other cars, and find out what others are doing.  Not just sit all day by my car.

i've done this, and I've giving quite a few younger kids rides too. i take the parents with too. I dont want to make anybody uncomfortable, I just like seeing younger kids getting into old cars.

I agree with a slight variation...

Leave before the trophy presentations....

I have lost any interest in another meaningless trophy cluttering up the house. I want to support the shows and have a good time but I just enter as 'display only'.

I walk around and enjoy the other cars and trucks. When you return to your car look at it like it`s not yours, the comments they make to each other can be hilarious.

That describes almost every Jersey show I have ever been at. The earlier in the season, the more flyers you get.

You will rarely catch me by my car. I am not there to play policeman, and if something is gonna happen, it will happen regardless of if I am sitting behind the car.

The trophy thing is so old. I get a kick out of some of the die hards who need their little plastic trophy to impress whoever.

JimShine

I like to walk around. Or hang out where there is shade. Last year I had my best one with a fellow member here. We hung out in his enclosed trailer sitting on lawn chairs and relaxed the day away.

DodgeChargerNeeded

I have a pretty nice car and when I go to shows its usually with a small group 4-5 cars total. We all park together. We stay with the cars for awhile and then walk around but there is usually 2-3 people sitting there at all time that we are with so not much to worry about. I won't sit there all day and babysit. 95% of the people are respectful and don't touch but you are always gonna get the people that can't keep there hands off. So if your that worried about it might as well leave it in the garage. I'm mind change my mind if something actually happened to my car but for now I won't worry.

I've done it both ways.  It kind of depends on the crowd but anytime it's been a show where I didn't feel it was safe to leave the car, I never stayed long anyway.

19Charger68

We do leave our car to look around after we get it ready.  We will return frequently to check it.  It is also kind of nice to be with your car to answer any questions people might have.  No matter how much I hate to leave it unattended, If you can't enjoy yourself by looking at the other cars and talking with their owners, what fun is it?
