I have a kind of serious pet question for you, Dog related.....

Believe it or not, this happens a lot easier than you would think.  Atleast thats what the vet told me.  This happened to one of my dogs which I had to chain up for a while when I was making a fence repair.   So long as it's clean, the hair will grow back real quick and it should be fine.  Normal antiseptic cream should hedge any concerns you might have and infection.

pettyfan43

Chris G, I didn't expect anything, I simply asked for a little help for a situation that happened before I knew it was happening. The Vet's assistant told us and many people here and otherwise have agreed, This is kind of common. IT HAPPENS. It isn't a good thing but it can and does happen. Apparently it IS pretty common with large breed puppies.

What I was NOT looking for is someone being judgmental or coming down on me when I was simply concerned about our dog. Why do people think they know EXACTLY what is going on when they simply have no clue? Who are you to judge whether or not we take care of the dog?

The way he has grown over the last week or two has been astounding, kind of like a teenager, when they hit a growth spurt.  AND I didn't even think about this until my wife brought it up, but we had a pretty substantial rain this last week and he likes to get out in the rain and play. Between his growing and him playing in that rain, most likely that nylon collar stretched and then shrank. A combination of things, none of which was abusive or neglectful to our dog.

What made me mad was your accusatory tone. Simply because it is not true, but you and the missing link chose to see things like you know we are mistreating the dog when you don't know ANYTHING about me, my wife OR the dog.

Maybe instead of being judgmental in a situation, you can either try to help or just stay out of it, what you said didn't do anything besides make me feel worse and add anger to how I already felt.

The fact that you took this dog that no one else wanted into your home - and that you posted your question about his health to get some help says it all.  I wish everyone was as concerned about these wonderful creatures as you are.  I hope he completely heals soon!

For you folks who are concerned, this morning. That smell is gone, the place is already healing up well, he is really playful and getting really feisty, it was hard to get the ointment on him this morning and the place on his neck is a LOT better already.

Thank all of you who gave suggestions and moral support from Mrs Pettyfan43 and myself. Our little but QUICKLY growing buddy Hemi (Yeah Hemi the dog) thanks you as well!

I'm just one guy with an opinion, that's all. Don't take it so personal. If you know you are a good owner, then that's all that should matter. The fact that you feel so bad about it, makes me know you do care. I did say you are probably a good owner, and had no intent to hurt him in my last post. The dog is fine now, so it's all good.

You are right, believe me, I didn't sleep all that well last night. I feel a lot better now that we have checked on him.

Yeah we care for the guy a lot! Thank you for being do concerned about him, but I hope you understand Why it got mad about that.

Cheers

Pettyfan,I am glad to hear that your little guy is doing better.  I also have a large breed dog,so I know that they can "sprout up" pretty quickly.  Our lab was the same way when we first got him (he was 6 wks old).  Although I never experienced the same thing you did, we did experience other problems with him.  Fortunatly enough he is a great lovable dog that has rebound fine.  Our other dog is a Beagle and she is a spitball.  She cost us a lot of money too in vet bills already and we have only owned her for 5 months!  She got into a fight with a cat and punctured her eye...hundreds of dollars latter she is perfectly fine.

HE continues to get much better, We just now did another cleaning and put the triple antibiotic ointment and he is a happy doggy!

He's getting back to being his old self..

Thank you for your concern.

Thank you to everybody for caring about a a dog you haven't ever met.  He's a great puppy who will (I'm SURE) grow into a happy dog!

GEEEZE !  You sure got alot of mileage out of this thread.  I agree with Chris G. that, after reading all of your replies that you are not the abusive type and do love your pets.  But, given your first post, think about how that sounded to probably the two biggest dog lovers on this board.  Basically we hear that you got a puppy 3 months ago, he still has the same collar on that he came home with and now he's slowing chocking to death.  Not much else was presented to explain why he was allowed to get in that condition.  I wouldn't be much of a dog lover if I didn't question that.  I've seen too many sad cases over the years of pet abuse (calm down, I'm not talking about you) that was simply brought on by peoples lack of knowlege, economic situations or just plain laziness and they all LOVED their pets.  I can understand how you felt judged, but I would not change what I said considering how your first post sounded to me.  Chris G. and myself certainly seem to have been judged by all the fine people here.  Anyway, I can't do anymore damage here, so I'm done.  I'm very glad HEMI is on the mend.   Bob

Yeah I reread the first post and it is kinda full of holes, but I was really worried and there aren't any Vets open here on Sunday. I wasn't really sure where to turn. I can see why it sounds like that to you. But I figured that with the message boards I'm on, some people would have had experience with this and I could hopefully get some ideas what to do. I was scared that the poor dog was in real bad shape. I wasn't real concerned with trying to tell the full complete story in detail.

I didn't try to get mileage out of the thread, it just kinda happened.  I'm just glad our dog is doing better. Thanks

i agree with chris..at least the dog is ok...
dogs get hurt and you cant always be there..even if thay grow fast into a collar..... :-X

MoparManJim

to RECHRGD , I know pettyfan as a follow board member, and I just want to tell you afew things. for one it depends on the dog collar that an animal has on an whats its made out of. if its nylon it is known to strink sometimes if it gets wet. I had a nylon watch on one time afew years back an went swimming with it over night that thing had sruckin on my wrist! I talk to pettyfan an he said his little dog had a nylon collar on. and he also said it had rain out where he lives at! so with hearing that it would seem the rain did it to the collar. also have you ever made a mistake in your life? probly so and have you ever ask for help? probly so. so when this guy comes on here asking for help you give him fricking grief!

link, did you just join the board here so you can also give pettyfan grief instead of helpful advice?? and what you said "please  tell us that you are more able to take care of your charger...shit if the oil gets low will you check it or just find out when its dead..." well did you have a charger that you for got to check the oil in an it croak the bucket?

when people like you two jump down a person trout thinking your smart sound always think twice because I'm a animal lover also an Pettyfan came on here asking for fricking help an all you guys can do it bad mouth him just for asking for help. Maybe some day he can return the favor to you or maybe I can for advice or help.

You really think that if he was hurting the poor dog that he would really come on here an ask for help? no he wouldn't so the stupid is really back on you, and also what does a fricking charger has to do with a darn dog? LOL

some of you should be ashame of yourselves for the bad mouthing of a person that is asking for help. I should maybe leave the site here if we have alot of people like you around here.

Yes I have also read page 2.

Also from a friend for a friend, thank you all that had help Pettyfan out with advice an help for his little dog.. they should be more people like you all on this site to help others out instead of bad mouthing them.

WILL THE DRAMA EVER STOP........IS THIS ABOUT YOUR DOG OR YOU......GET A GRIP AND GET ON WITH LIFE.... :'(

Wait a minute, I sent you a PM to find out if you had a problem with ME personally. To clear the air, after that sarcastic post you made last time.  I did that to keep any problems off this board and to nip any problems between us in the bud.

NOW you do this. WHO is creating drama here?

If you don't have a problem with me, just TELL ME THAT and it will be over. IF you do tell me what it is. But you LINK are the one that is creating drama here now.

GEEZ people I posted for advice about a problem with my puppy, I was worried about the dog pure and simple.

I did this on 3 message boards, of all the people on those boards TWO PEOPLE have given me crap BOTH form here.  EVERYONE ELSE understood what I was saying and where I was coming from.

RECHRGD

Pettyfan43, this is just getting stupid.  Regardless of what Link is saying, what are you getting out of this continuious argument?  Why not just let it go away?  Even after I thought I made peace with you, your still harping on the "two people that gave you crap".  I chose not to respond to MoparManJim's moronic post, figuring that he was either drunk or never made it passed 6th grade.  You guys are only confirming the stereotypical view of Mopar enthusiasts as being a bunch of ignorant redneck losers.  I think I'm going to go buy a corvette.  Love, Bob

pettyfan43

Ya know what, I'm not getting anything out of it.

The two people I was referring to were Chris G and link. The guy posted that little snide remark. YOU YOURSELF gave me crap after I answered a simple question about the dog to SOMEONE ELSE!

Anyway forget it. Maybe I have tried too hard to defend myself. It is just that some pretty serious stuff was said. Just like what link posted just above.

I've never caught more crap in my life from people for just asking for help.

To hell with it.

Mrspettyfan43

Stop. EVERYBODY just stop.

This has gone too far. Some harsh things have been said by ALL parties involved and now it is over. Our puppy is FINE and that is all that matters.

There are alot of people on this board and it is to be expected that not everyone is going to get along, but we all need to remember that sometimes the written word might not come across the same way as if we were face to face discussing the same topic.

Bottom line, there are things going on in the world right now that are SO much more important that animals and yes, even cars. People are going through life altering events even as I type this and so the way I look at it is, if having to write this is the worst thing that happens to me today, then I am truly blessed.

Life it TOO short guys. Let it go.

Love you too Bob!

Beth

P.S. I am a redneck, but I'm an INTELLIGENT,HOT one!  ;)

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
