Do you guys like Mustang's? I've always got the impression there's supposed to be some kind of rivalry between Mustang's and Mopar's but from what i've seen at shows and on boards everyone likes and has respect for both, although I have seen a guy on here called mustanghater so i'm not sure what he's problem is, I have 2 Mustang's and have owned a Charger in the past and I love both, being from England the Mustang's are probably a little more suited over here as they fit in the garage but I see Mustang's and Mopar's a cut above Chevy's and the others, have any of you had a Mustang in the past? How do you compare them to Mopars?

Charger-Bodie

mustangs wouldnt be that bad if they wernt over rated and over populated ....they are everywhere they just arent that special thats one of the great things about mopars there arent 10 of them on youre block!!

check out the production #s of a mustang they sold a gazillion of them ....they are like lawn mowers just about everyone has one !! now dont get the wrong idea im not dissing youre car or any others its just that i like to stand out in the crowd!

Yeah true, although over here not many people know what my cars are because they are so few and far between, people sometimes come and look closely at the emblems : )

 :iagree:

Its not that its a bad car, there was/is just way too many of them.

Silver68RT

I've got a '69 Mach 1 428 SCJ, and a '68 Charger R/T 440.  Both are projects, both are 4-speeds, and I think they're both amazing looking cars, with awesome performance potential, but I haven't driven either yet.  I don't know if it's a Bullitt thing, but I've always thought Mustangs and Chargers go together well.

I like a lot of different cars from the muscle era, but the '68 Charger and the '69 Mustang sportsroof are right at the top of my list of best looking musclecars.  I'd also love to get a '70-'74 'cuda, but that would be a stretch the way prices have gone on those.  I could have picked up a fully restored '68 GT500KR for $37K a years ago, but I'd just bought the Charger, and would have had to take out a loan, so I passed.   :brickwall:  I'll be kicking myself for the rest of my life over that one.

A buddy of mine had a pale yellow '69 Mustang Grande with a 351 - looked like granny's car, but it was a blast to drive.  Very much a sleeper, 430 hp, bone stock exterior, PetroCanada retreads, and single exhaust.

I have never had a older Mustang, but I did buy a 04 Mustang GT to flip a couple years ago, I did not care for it much at all. Personally I would not buy one to drive for daily driver, or have as a classic, but that is just my opinion. It is not that 69 and 70 Mach I's are a bad looking car, they are rather sharp, it's just there are so many other cars I would rather have instead.  I do give Ford credit on the newer GT's as they are a nice looking car.

JMF

Yeah I have one of them, and a 71 Fastback

Troy

I don't know where you guys live but I'm pretty much in the heart of car show country and it's rare that I see either my favorite Charger (68-70) or my favorite Mustang (67-69 fastback). I was looking at a 67 GTA 390 fastback when I found my Barracuda. If it had been drivable I'd own it instead. I know they made a lot more Mustangs but they aren't exactly common these days either. I see a boatload of coupes and convertibles though. There's an 89 Mustang 5.0 in the driveway. It looks just like a million other fox-bodied cars but it's cheap and a blast to drive. If I were into racing I'd choose it before any of my Mopars (did I mention cheap = disposable?). I also like the 03-04 Cobras but my insurance company doesn't agree.  :icon_smile_evil:

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

JMF

the 71 - 73 Mustang's are good, they're not far off Mopar size, good car to drive and the interior on mine is much better than the 1960's ones

69 OUR/TEA

I would have to say I like alot of others also, really like 69 mach 1's.I am not a mopar or no car guy by anymeans, although I always go to E-town and carlisle along with every mopar show in my state. For mopars I have 3,5 if you count my 03 minivan and 00 durango R/T (my future survivor, black w/only 14k miles). Also in the garage are 2 fords ,2 buicks, and 1 chevy truck(stays outside).Yes,one of the fords is a 04 mustang gt,fun to drive, park anywhere with no worries, and replace if something happens to it.Just took it to the track last weds, raced it and drove it home.IMO,bang for the buck, mopar has nothing like it until the challenger comes out,and even at that it will be quite costly I'm sure.

Corellian Corvette

I have a 65 Mustang. They're great old cars. While there are a lot of them, there are also a lot of people who have fond memories of them so you always get thumbs-up and waves.

Plus, they are SUPER cheap to restore and easy to get parts for. That takes out some of the "thrill of the hunt" but it's certainly easier on your wallet.  ;D

I would say if you really wanted a classic car daily driver type vehicle, or a second project car, they're very fun.

They're also small which is nice :)

Harlow

I really like any of the fastback mustangs (sport roof?). I like most muscle cars, but mopars come first. I'd love a 66-69 GTO...still working on that one.

I was more so brought up on Fords. Although the first car I wanted was a Charger, I had several Mustangs and T/A's in between. This is one of my Mustangs that I sold a few years ago.

I also have to say you have one of the coolest 68's I have ever seen. That is one sweet car you have.  :2thumbs:

Mustangs sound great.  They look great, at least the fastbacks, (67-70) and lee iacocca designed it

Bones68charger

I have respect for any guy who loves a car and takes care of them, but for me personally I don't like them.

I like cars that you don't see as much.. Chargers, any Mopar really. Buick GS, Olds 442. Heck I don't know if I have ever seen a GTO in person. In my small little town there are a ton of Mustangs, Chevelle's and Camaro's. There are 2 Chargers.. My 68 and a 70 500. We get more attention when we have our cars out then most any other. That is just one reason I love Chargers, you just don't see many of them.

I love most all cars, and Mustangs are one of my favorites. My wife is a Ford girl thru and thru, and tells me a 65-66 fastback rebuild is in my future! :yesnod: :icon_smile_wink:

moparguy01

after restoring a couple of old stangs, a 65 and a 66, I'll tell you that I'll never own one of those cars. They are built like tinkertoys. Frankly I dont trust a car that the main peice of structural stability in the trunk area is the gas can which fills the huge hole in the trunk floor.....its just like the pinto, except the mustang didnt have 60 minutes to show the country about it.

Brock Samson

they tend to sag in the middle  :yesnod:

BTW: my buddies made a hobby of stealing them when i was a young teen but i just went along joy riding

a little info is a dangerous thing   :P

"First conceived by Ford product manager Donald N. Frey [2][3] and championed by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca, the Mustang prototype was a two-seat, mid-engine roadster. This would later be remodeled as a four-seat car penned by David Ash and John Oros[4] in Ford's Lincoln–Mercury Division design studios, which produced the winning design in an intramural design contest called by Iacocca. To cut down the development cost, the Mustang was based heavily on familiar, yet simple components. Much of the chassis, suspension, and drive train components were derived from the Ford Falcon"

Didn't Steve McQueen loose to the charger in Bullitt?  Anywho, women love good guys, but have sex with bad guys and only bad guys drive Chargers. So sell your mustang, buy a charger then you'll get laid.

I like the style plum. but seriously. have you looked at how these cars were built? its kinda creepy really. but they do look nice. I've also been told that a company now makes a drop seat riser, for those of us about 5'8" tall, and its supposed to make it so someone up to around 6'3" can sit in them comfortably. I just havent seen a car with it installed.
