I've only seen the movie 'Serenity' and I loved it. I was just wondering if the TV show 'Firefly' was as good as the movie.

Here's a little factoid about Firefly I found in the link above:
"In the introductory mini-series for Battlestar Galactica, Serenity can be seen flying overhead in an early scene."

Big Firefly fan here. It's a shame Fox screwed that show over.

You should rent/buy the Firefly DVDs. Very good show. It comes with, I believe, 14 episodes. And it really helps you enjoy the Movie even more cuz you have a better understanding about Mal, Zoe, River, and the rest of the cast.

MAN YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  LOVE the series and the movie.

The series was one of the best ever. Well written with a truly ensemble cast, they did a really good job of making sure nobody was the "big star" of the series.

The stories are well done and well written and the cool bonus is that they used the whole cast from the series to do the movie.

I have the DVD set and HIGHLY recommend it.

No wonder it was canceled. ::) I sometimes think studio executives really strive for something between crap and mediocrity.

BTW, I just bought the series set off Ebay for $29.

Yeah and Fox is the worst about that, I keep expecting somebody there to figure out that "Bones" is actually a really good show and cancel it immediately!

Excellent show. it was actually made so that you could watch the movie without seeing the tv show, or vice versa.

Definately get the episodes on dvd though. my roommate had them and i watched them one time when i got bored, then i went out and bought my own.

i read the crew was hired away from firefly to do BSG...
the Movie was greatit felt like they really had a wonderful time doing it..
and yeah I loved it,.. best ensemble cast i have seen in quite some time..  :icon_smile_wink:

I thought it was an excellent show!  Sometimes scifi stuff goes over peoples heads.

I got the series last week and already ripped through all 15 episodes. It was pretty good, although I prefer BSG. You can totally tell the BSG special effects people were hired from the Firefly well. The outer space scenes look identical to those in BSG.

Check out this pic I found while looking through some Firefly stuff on line. Isn't it just the epitome of what you'd expect to see at a sci-fi convention?

Nothing there. Can't see anything. What kind of file is it?

It was a gif but I got stymied on the sizing. You can see it here, fourth row down on the left. Summer Glau with some geek: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?ei=UTF-8&p=summer+glau&y=Search&fr=yfp-t-501&b=121

Firefly was a great series, and Serenity was an even better movie.  I wish there was more good scifi stuff on tv these days.  I hear great things about BSG, but I missed most of the episodes, and when I try to watch, I'm totally lost  :icon_smile_sad:

Just buy them on iTunes or the DVDs on Ebay or Amazon. It's better that way because you don't have to wait until next week to see what happens. :yesnod:

speaking of dvds i rented the first four episodes of Firefly and i think it's cool that the episodes have the director & writer doing narration and explaining how they did the same sets over and over that were built with popsicle sticks and thumbtacks...
kind of cool knowing the production tricks and what the network specified and they didn't like but had to deal with anyhow..

pettyfan43

Rent the set that has the LAST 4 episodes, with the featurettes on the cool aspects of the show. Cool stuff like the use of language and explanations of some of the Chinese phrases used on the show.

I was able to watch all of the Firefly series as downloads from the "morale drive" computers while I was TDY to Afghanistan early last year.  I had never heard of the series before, but was told to watch the series before watching the movie "Serenity".

I'm so glad I did.  It made watching the feature film of the series soooooo much more enjoyable.

Get it and spend the weekend watching it!
