Getting the Charger soda blasted next thursday...

Gonna cost me $2200 to do it.  :o

I thought about getting it chemical dipped/e-coated but the shipping cost alone for the nearest place that does it would cost me MORE than $2200.

Anyway, just want to make sure I'm prepared.

After the car is blasted, I'm gonna douse it/wipe it down with Vinegar (thanks to the advice of Drop Top). After that, I'll wipe it down with PPG Metal Cleaner. How do I apply the metal cleaner though? Do I just poor it on a rag and wipe, or do I mix it with water, etc...?

Then I'll take my car back to the house (about 3 minutes away) and spray on the epoxy primer (PPG DP90).

I have a question though, after I spray on the DP90, do I have to spray anything over it right away? Or can I just go straight to body work?

Also, what catalyst do I need to use with the DP90 and what mixture?

Thanks

Silver R/T

you can do body work after dp90 is dry. When you buy dp90 they'll give you right catalyst/activator for it and it'll say right mix ratio right on the can.

DP90 is epoxy primer, isn't it? Now you've got me worried. lol

Is there another primer I'm suppose to use?

At one Resto place I worked at the boss would like to use 2 coats of the DP90 Epoxy primer. Then next day or two rough it up with 80 grit on DA. Then Bondo right over this. Some might agree or disagree with this. Ask 10 people you'll get 10 different answers. Some prefer Bare metal under their Bondo or Body Filler. Some prefer a Wash Primer instead of epoxy. I've seen about every variable possible, nothing surprises me anymore. Pick a winner. LEON.

I've decided to re-schedule getting my car blasted. Either that or cancel completely. $2200 is just way too much. It's a full thousand more then I expected to pay. There's a restoration place in San Antonio I'm gonna call tomorrow to see if they'll blast my car. If not, I'll keep looking.

Also, I have more work to do getting the car ready anyway, and not enough time to do it. I still have to get the rest of the pieces needed to get my whirly jig working, remove the undercoat and bondo, buy the primer, buy the metal cleaner, etc...

Plus, I still have to finish building the shelves in my shed so I can properly store all the parts. THursday is too soon.

Depending on how much Jeff Lilly restorations will charge for it, I may not even get it blasted at all. I'm thinking of dropping the car off at Jeff Lilly restorations and letting them blast it and do all the body work (that will be needed). Then I can pick it up and just start on the block sanding.

Anyone from SA ever dealt with Jeff Lilly before?

terrible one

Good call. $2,200 for that sounds way high to me. Like I said in that other thread, hand sand it man! Then you're only out for the cost of sandpaper and a lot of sweat!

this is for full exterior/interior price?

Exterior, Interior, and Underside. I was expecting it to be around $1,500 tops. I'll keep looking. Maybe I can just pay the guy to blast the hard to get to spots.  :rotz:

Maybe $1,500 would'nt be bad if including the whole undercarriage., Just make sure all the undercoat is gone. LEON.
