What's the best fuel mileage you ever got in your Charger?

Back in about 1986 I took a trip from Portland, Oregon to Enterprise, Oregon (about 350 miles) and I got 22 mpg with a '70 383/auto and (I think) a 2.76 rear end. I don't know what the ratio was because I never cared but it had some pretty tall gears. I followed an empty flat bed truck that was running about 90 mph for roughly 250 miles of that trip. What's your best mpg?

For the few years that I ran a 318, I consistantly got 19 MPG.  I don't remember the gear ratio of the rear end at the time.

I dont keep track but the way I have a lead foot when I am in my charger, chances are I get gallons per mile!

Never checked, if it was a concern for me I would probably drive something different.  Now if it was as expensive as a boat to fuel, that would get my attention in a hurry, but right now, I can still rate it by a fun per dollar figure.

A few years ago on the trip down to Carlisle, PA I averaged 15 mpg....on the way up it was around 9

Uh oh...this is turning into another "Gas Prices Check-In" bitchfest thread...

the best mpg I've ever got in the Charger was 25. Drove from L.A. to Vegas, from Vegas to MATS @ LVMS, back down to Strip, drove around town, then back to the hotel in Primm. I didn't have to fill up again till the next morning in Baker - halfway back to L.A. Over 450 miles on a single 18 gallon gas tank. Probably can go further, but half the drive to Vegas is uphill.

I probably only get 5 mpg. Plus $5.00 a gallon for the 110 high octane Sunoco Turbo Blue. Gets exspensive to go anywhere, the 360 Magnum Ram Truck not good either. LEON.

I calculate fuel mileage when I drive my '05 F150 (and it sucks BTW), but when I get in my Charger fuel mileage is the furthest thing from my mind. When that motor barks through the headers and the speedo climbs quickly, I think only about why I have a muscle car. It's fun. Screw what it costs.

Seems to me, that anyone who claims to actually get anything above 17 or 18 highway with a big block in a B-Body Charger, might need to get new batteries for their calculator. I'm not talking about one of those Omni/Horizon/Shelby things either.

Yep, sound like a 318 will get you close to 20 and a big block is stuck around 10..

I didn't calculate ( don't need either since is not really a headache here ). I get more less 450-80 km road trip ( around 285 miles ) with a tank.

Well, it was a one-time thing. The oddity pointed out in the thread title and in my first post here was that it was a bit of an anomaly. I sustained a very high rate of speed for a long time (roughly 4.5 hrs.) and the fuel economy was the best I ever got.

The best I ever got?? How about all I ever get. 7.5 mpg. No highway, ever. All stop and go, mostly go.

We are running the first leg of thew Power Tour in a few weeks. I will check back in with highwy mpg. Thats if I can afford to drive it back home. Reg gas here is $3.49, 91 is about $3.75. Lets see here, Home to Cleveland Ohio, 375 miles. Cleveland to kalamazoo MI, 260 miles. Kalamazoo to home, 125 miles, for a total of   760 miles. 760 miles/10 mpg (I hope) = 76 gallons of gas * $3.75 per gallon =  $285 just for gas for the weekend. I need to pick up some overtime!

Well call it what you want, but I averaged 18.3 mpg during the last trip I made in the 500 over to St. Louis for the Monster Mopar. And that included running out to the Winged Warriors get together that weekend as well. Not a whole lot of in town driving, mainly highway. And that is with a 440, AT, with 3.55 gears in the rear.

16mpg with the 4barreled 318/904 and a 2:76 rear gear I believe. And thats crusin bout 70-75 on my way to Arkansas. Once in Arkansas tryin to roll with traffic at like 80....my mpg went to about 14.

The blue car w/ a 4 gear and 3:54's got around 11-12 on the highway.
My purple car got right at 13 with the wedge and 3 carbs, 3:55's.  Now with the Hemi and two 650 Eddies, it's real close to 13's, high 12 if I remember correctly same rear.  I'm anxious to see what the Overdrive does.
While I agree that it shouldn't matter what you're getting, it doesn't hurt to keep track just for shlts and giggles.

When we went down to TN last year we were running about 20 mpg and that was with a 440, 727, 625 cfm carb and 3.23 gears.  I was pretty happy about it.  Usually get about 250-300 miles per tank.

Old Thread Resurrection. Just had a really good tune done, carb floats and mixture set correctly and dizzy recurved . Mild 440 auto 3:23 15.60mpg or 5.52km/litre,  18.1 L/100 km . Was only getting 14.3mpg a few weeks ago so that is a great improvement , more miles in every tank now,sweet. Was fully laden though and could only do average 55 due to heavy traffic but a good result after the tune spend.

I'm not sure what i get, but its comparable to driving my 08 Dodge Ram 4X4 with a 5.7 liter.
The Charger is a lot more fun to drive.

Odd subject to some, but increasing efficiency when fuel costs so much just makes sense.
In October, I drove north from Van Nuys home to  hasSacramento and tunred a best of 12.9 on one fill-up. Sounds crappy intil you consider the car and how it is equipped:
70 Charger with a 493 BB, Edelbrock heads, old school MP '509 cam, 850 VS carb and a 727 with Gear Vendors .78 overdrive followed by a 3.91 diff. The car has 275 series tires up front and 295s out back, so rolling resistance is a factor. I drove much of the trip with the windows down too. I think that with some tuning, I may squeeze 14 mpg with the current combo.
I'm looking into a cam swap to a more modern grind. I have already begun installing a wideband A/F ratio guage to monitor my numbers and to help me optimize things. Who knows... I may crack 16 mpg, a 12.0 quarter and 1.0g on the skidpad....

Actually an acquaintance from my hometown who was there as a spectator offered to tow me home behind his car with a rope.  It didn't cost a cent but it was an hour behind a rope.

1968 w/ 318 - 904, 2.76 gear...   bumped up timing 2.5 degrees, zip tube to get cool air from the battery hole in the rad support. Dropped front end.  Front spoiler. Steady 55 mph to Indy and back from Detroit.  This was in 1975...  speed limit was 55 on the Interstates.   So, highway only mileage was 27.2 mpg.
Spark plug color was the perfect tan tone !

Last trip in the 500 this year netted a 19.2mpg. That is now a stock 440 with 2.76 gears in the back. Oh and finally went up to 15" rims with 225/60
