Steering wheel repair

Is there anyway to repair this spot in the steering wheel. I picked it up this weekend and it's in otherwise good shape, you can even see the wood grain!

Good sites and contacted them...no partial fixes, whole thing will need to be redone. I did find out however I need an adapter for the wheel to go on a '70...I didn't know that.
