So i have been adding a second story onto my house this past year and i havent gotten time to close up the ceiling in the Veranda on the back of the house.  In the meantime the pigeons have moved into my attick.  The little bastards built a king size nest in my soffit and layed two eggs.  Then a couple weeks went by and sure enough there is two baby pigeons and tons of pigeon crap all over.

So sunday i took a peek up there to see what was going on and there they were, two beady-eyed baby pigeons looking back at me.  I thought i'd let them fly away and then close up the ceiling.  Then i read on the internet that pigeons have a egg to flight time span of 4~6 weeks.  And durring this time the parent pigeons have layed another batch of eggs.  And they carry all kinds of diseases, afterall they are jsut rats with wings..

So Sunday i carefully took apart the fascia and soffit and set them down on the scaffold for now.  The parent pigeons keep flying up into the attick for now.  I would think that they see their young on the scaffold.  But i dont care anymore, i did my good deed for the day.  My neighbor keeps offering me different types of guns to take care of the problem but i told him i dont need to be shooting any holes thru my new roof .. :2guns:

Saying they all carry diseases is like saying every human has cancer. Just like peiople are told not to touch a baby bird because it will leave a human sent. It's a myth. I  have dealt with wildlife and some wildllife sanctuaries enough.  I have dealt with birds, bats, to flying squirrels. Humans need to stop feeling all high and mighty to other spieces. they are here for a reason just like us. Don't be childish and say"Yah, food." Take alook beyond  the ego. There's a whole beautiful world out there.

Just relax the species will survive without them being in his house, he has the right to make his home free of unwanted parsites just like I'm sure the pigons would clean out a parasite from their home...............

That'll teach you to get a project finished.   ::)

Pigeons are a member of the dove family if I recall. They're not the brightest of birds either. (They even have that "Which way did he go George?" look most of the time too.) There's a small bird that makes a nest every spring under the overhang by my back door. I don't know what kind it is, it's about the same size as a sparrow & comes back every year. I always say I should make a cover of some type to keep them out, but other than a few droppings, it's no big deal.

My daughter loves seeing the babies when they hatch, & it seems to have become an annual event. Right now there's eggs in the nest, & also an egg from a different bird. My wife's friend was a biology teacher & told her that there are some birds that "borrow" a nest instead of building one, & let the other bird hatch it. I wonder which came first, the lazy bird using another's nest to let them hatch the egg & raise the chick, or the lazy human using someone else's house to drop off a kid?

You could get some plastic netting for the opening if you can't finish the project.  I have had pigeons nest on the shelving on the open air storage at work.

While they're still young & impressionable, you could teach them how to carry little notes on their leg. Take 'em for a drive in Whitey for a few miles, let 'em go & see if they're waiting for you when you get back home.

If not, I guess you'll know you suck at training pigeons. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

We have tons of pigeons at work, I use a 10" boot.

My grandpa hated animals to death, but never could bring himself to kill two baby birds like that..They are just sitting there chilling hah.
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

You did right.  No reason to kill them unnecessarily.  I've certainly been tempted over the years with certain birds, and the rabbit infestation we have.  Smart as I talk, though, I'm not going to kill them simply out of spite.

Well the parent pigeons have found their young and have continued to feed them.  They are getting bigger now and I suspect they will be ready for flight soon.

I got the ceiling installed this week so there will be no more open space for the pigeons to live in my attic.
