Here's another question, why was he taking the Charger for a spin after learning the undercover cop dude was a cop?  Was the Charger so fast, he was going to be able to go backwards in time and undo all his evil acts?
It probably explains that in the movie but I'd have to watch it again.

Good point although I don't think there was another car available for him to go off in, it's weird also that he was about to take the car for a drive even before Brian showed up, and eariler in the film he said he had never ever driven it because he was too scared, so on his first drive in it he wheelied it then crashed it in to a train, i'm sure his old man was well proud(Sarcasm)

I thought he took it out because the Chinese guys shot his buddy, so he went after them in the Charger. Then the cop went after them too, when they finished them off, the cop and the Charger coincidently met up at the stop light.

The chase ends in an unbelievable stunt. A semi-truck smashes into the Charger, causing the muscle car to flip several times. Although the stuntman walked away, the Charger hasn't been driven since. See this piece of Hollywood history before it undergoes a complete restoration.
