Ok im on to body work finally am im sure soon ill be in the position that i can't wait till its done.  Ok im not a bodyman at all,  Kinda what i was thinking to do is sand it down with my DA sander,  What grit i hear to use 37 and then go back over it with 80, what are your preferences?  Also i got alot of rust issues!  What would be the best way to take car of this, por-15?  Anyways i was planning to sand it then throw a couple of coats of epoxy primer, doing a panal at a time.  Also im guessing any dents should be worked out while in medal?  Also rust spots should i just grind as much of it out as i can and then epoxy primer it?  Sorry for all the questions but would rather have it done right the first time.

Thanks

if you have rust on the sheetmetal it needs to be either ground down or replaced. POR15 is NOT an acceptable alternative. you could get the car media blasted too. then replace whatever sheetmetal is bad enough to have holes. then put epoxy down, then after that go ahead and put your filler down and go from there.

You work on the dents after you throw on the epoxy primer. As for the rust, it depends how bad it is. These guys here know a lot more about this stuff then I do, but I think you'd want to replace any rusted out places with new metal. This would also be done after you spray on the epoxy primer.

OK there is just spots on the outside of the quarters where rock chips were and it rusted, so it would be safe to say just sand the spots away and epoxy primer it?  Also the inside of the quarter has sufficiently more surface rust, none has made any holes or anything.  But what would be the best way to get the rust out of there?  lol seems like it would be fun.

thanks again

My 69 was loaded with rust, I chose to eliminate it by having the entire body sandblasted.  Some rust can be sanded away, most of it, cannot.  If there are any areas that are pitted and thin, chop it out and replace with new metal.  Get the car to bare metal, and lay down a coat of Epoxy, even if it's 1 panel at a time.  I've been using DuPont DTM 2540 with good results.  It's not cheap but does a nice job.  ONce you have epoxy down, get some Evercoat Rage Gold filler, not that cheap Bondo brand garbage from Pep Boys, then go to town with the filler work.  Remember, body filler repair areas should not be more than 1/4" thick.  Work the metal until it's as best as you can get it, then use the filler shaping it with 80 grit.  Once you have all your bodywork roughed in down to 180 grit, get some 2K Urethane primer and start blocking.  Quick tip here, get yourself a cheap paint gun for primer application, preferably something with at least a 1.8 mil tip as primers are a thicker material.  I'm no pro by any means, but I just finished my 69 using this method and the car came out very nice.
