Damnit.

Firstly, this involves my '01 Lincoln LS, not the Charger. Today was a horrible day. My girlfriend needs to go out to a small town about 20 miles away for an interview with someone who's kids she is supposed to start babysitting daily. She doesn't have any gas so I offer to take her. No big deal. It's pouring down rain, has been all day. Go out there, she goes into the house. Well after about 30 minutes I get bored and decide to drive around. I go down this gravel road. It was really narrow and ended with a locked gate. So, not wanting to reverse for a mile (though I really wish I would have now) I decided to try and pull a crazy complex k-turn to get out of there. Well Once I got to where I was straight across the road, I went back some, then forward just a bit, and the front of the car just slowly slid into the drainage ditch on the side of the road. Nothing big. Only about a foot across and a foot down from the road. Turns out it was big. At that angle there was no weight on the back end, and went I went to reverse all that happened was spinning. Tried going forward and back plenty of times, but was doing nothing but smoking my brand new tires. Damnit. I was stuck in the pouring down rain in a place I had never been to. So after surveying my car, which at this point was sunken into the mud in the ditch halfway up the wheels and was bottomed out on the transmission crossmember, I walked up the road to where I had dropped off my girlfriend. Not knowing the people, I went ahead and knocked on the door, introduced myself, and asked for help. The guy was plenty cool to help me, so that was good. We started by taking his truck down there. Tried hooking up to the back of the car, but his truck immediately began spinning. That wasn't going to work. Then he got the four-wheeler. It spun out too, and moved the car about half a foot. Still stuck as hell. Next was the tractor. One would think it wouldn't have any trouble. Well that was the problem. First, the tractor started slipping, so the guy was popping the clutch in it a bit to jerk the car out some. Horrible idea, and one that I was iffy about at just the mention of it. I had a chain attached to the subframe thing of my car on both sides, which made a loop that the tractor hooked onto. Bad idea. First the chain snapped without the car moving a bit. Then we got a beefier chain. No snapping. Instead, it ripped the hooked chain right through one of the holes that I had hooked it to in the bottom of my car. Just great. At that point, I was too upset to even want to touch it. I walked away and called a buddy to take me back into town. I'm so upset at myself. My car is sitting with the front end in mud, halfway across a gravel road, in some bunk town. I'll call a tow truck in the morning, which is what I should have done at first, because they will be able to get it no problem. But damn. I really like this car and bust my ass to take the best care of it that I can and after this I am completely pissed at myself and can't quit dwelling on it. Man, this is long. Rant over.

At least nobody was hurt and the damage (if any) to your car is probably minimal. Rubber and sheetmetal can be fixed. Learn from the mistake and move on. Just be glad you didn't have to spend 3 hours in the ER like I did last night...

Thanks guys. I admit I was overreacting a little, but it was a heat of the moment kind of thing. Should have the car back home today. The only pictures I took of the mess were with my cell, which I cant' upload to the computer (Sorry Dave, haha) but thinking about how I hydroplaned going 70 on the way out there before I got it stuck makes me realize how much worse it could be, and I'm calm now. Just got off the phone with my buddy who works at the towing service and he said he'll go get it as soon as they open up.

Don't beat yourself up.  I doubt that there is anyone on this board who hasn't done something stupid with their car at one time or another.  Example.  I have a Ford Expedition.  I had lifted the back gate up underneath a carport.  When I left, I forgot to put the gate down and tore off the rear wiper and tore up the gate.  I didn't just feel stupid, I WAS stupid.  Wish that was the only screwup I have had in my life.
